though there are less beds in my fort than there are dwarves (62 total).. maybe there is something in that?

If you don't assign the beds to individuals, I found you only need roughly 40 beds for a 200-dwarf fort.

As a reminder, this will only work if the beds aren't designated as rooms or if they're placed in a barracks - if a room is designated from a bed, the first dwarf that decides to sleep on said bed will immediately claim the room.

Are you saying that I don't have to assign each and every dwarf in my fort to a bedroom, that they'll claim them on their own?

They do claim bedrooms on their own. I just built my bedroom complex, and they'll choose a room. They somehow leave some rooms empty (excess bedrooms), on some floors, but it's no big deal.

But if you like them take a specific room (say, your first 7 dwarfs), assign them.

1. Cut out the political comments, that belongs on a different board. Last thing we need is a political flame war in the middle of a fairly humorous topic.

2. I've noticed my dwarves drinking from the stream instead of the booze stockpile as well, even though I have over 100 booze. It's possible that other dwarves are drinking from all the barrels, if you have 100 booze but it's really 4 barrels with 25 booze each only four dwarves can drink booze at a time. Any other thirsty dwarves will default to clean water (such as a river, stream, or well) if it's available.

im not sure if brain damage prevents skill ups

I have a dwarf who arrived during a tantrum spiral. He was attacked and had his lung punctured and recieved a concussion as well as broken arms. He healed pretty fast and has been in the fort for maybe 6-12 months in full health.

He has only 3 passing acquaintances and a pet. He seems unable to get friends, but he is a skilled flatterer and a competent negotiator, persuader, comedian, judge of intent and consoler.

I'm not 100 what to make of this.

I was so very happy when I discovered this. Then my face hurt for a while, mostly due to the *headdesk* from thinking about my previous 150df fort, and its rooms.

I'd like to amend this - cut out the specific political comments. Generic comments mocking politicians in general are acceptable; do not mock individuals.

No, that's normal nobles, not brain-damaged ones. (The problem with most nobles is caused by inbreeding, not trauma. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.)

Doesn't your uncle being your daddy count as trauma, Count Dorku?

Gah, my dwarves just elected an immigrant peasant to be mayor the second he arrived on the site.
