Okay, time for a new version!

I've fixed the edges for the most part, and every thing seems less buggy.

Here's the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yriggnnnn3h

There is this weird issue that can occur sometimes when you re-enter a map in the z-axis.
I have no idea what causes it, but it basically just scrambles the map all crazy.
Eventually I'll figure out a solution though.

The map edges are basically finished,
so I'll move onto vertical movement and generation soon.

For now, I'm probably going to add some more discoverable features.

More spice = more fun.

EDIT: While bug testing I found that 60% of all maps generated will have an "uncommon" feature.
The rare feature is still pretty rare.
I've only seen one generated without debug help.

I'm going to code name this picture "Hot Pursuit".

Consider it a spoiler.

Are what's not inspected inside spoilers?

If so, then

Also, didn't you put in a feature where you'd auto-jump at obstacles?
It was kind of discouraging not to see that in this version. :(

This is awesome - although I think I did find a bug.
When I walked to the edge of the map, it looked like it started generating the next area, but then it stopped and I could walk around on the black/white tiles. After a few steps it started up again, and it generated a mountain on top of me.

IIRC, You can turn this back on by pressing the J key.

First off, auto-jump is disabled by default, but I can switch that if you want.
Press J to turn it on and off.

EDIT:

Apparently, I am completely oblivious to jarathor...
The maps have a couple less common problems right now.

First off, a final edge resolve function is needed to add good edges between maps in special cases,
 which you apparently came across.

The other thing is, the map function is bugged somewhere,
and it can basically do whatever it wants when an old map is loaded,
since I can't figure out where the problem is.

Some of these bugs have so many possible causes that it doesn't seem worth fixing them,
since they may just become irrelevant in the future.

On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

Also I can't believe this is the development of THAT 2d game where you were an orange and were running around a strange planet. The game jumped a few times higher, I am looking forward to your next work!

I tried the newest version, and was horribly disoriented. I wandered around a bit, walked off the edge, and then suffered a MASSIVE LAG SPIKE OF DOOM. I say of doom because my entire computer froze, and then gave me an error message that's title was failure - apt, because I had to restart my computer.

Wow... I'm quite sorry.
Did you mess with the view settings?

I haven't had a crash in a while.
Did you see any bizarre shadows?
Maybe the range of colors had something to do with it.

I don't know, but that is definitely a problem.
The other possibility, you ran out of RAM or maybe even disk space.
I doubt it though.

What happened was I started walking to these white and black blocks on the edge of the map. I guessed I'd have to wait for the map to load, but when nothing happened after a few minutes I hit Alt-F4. When that didn't work, i tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and then the error message came up, basically saying the security settings window had failed to initialize. Fun stuff.

I'll try CloudScream again when I know what the hell I'm doing. I wouldn't know a weird shadow if I saw one right now :P
