I have both a Mac and a PC. The PCs fairly old now, running XP, but still isn't a creaking wreck. The only difference is the way the errors present themselves.

PC - Blue Screen of Death. Locks up and forces a restart. But gives a code you can google to find out what the hell is wrong.

Mac - Beachball of Death. Locks up and forces a restart. No information is given.

I am told that things like modeling and image editing software don't run as well on mac as they do on windows as well.  Basically, Mac vs. PC is like the default options for a camera vs. the the advanced settings.  The default is simple, but if you know how to use the advanced options they are far and away better.  Only using the advanced settings requires extra money or just not having default settings.

Only using the advanced settings requires extra money
That is the only statement I find wrong with that analogy.
Windows PCs are far cheaper than Macs.

Sorry - I mean having both costs extra.

So that's why a lot of designers prefer Mac over windows to use their design software?  ::)

No, you're wrong there.

I don't care for sides at all.  I use windows for convinience but I do not dislike mac.  Specially because I'm not familiar enough to be a good critic.

Anyway, thanks to mac, windows has a lot of cool features they never thought of.  And remember when Windows bought some Mac shares to help the company rise in exchange for technology?  More is better.

PC - Blue Screen of Death. Locks up and forces a restart. But gives a code you can google to find out what the hell is wrong.

Except that with or before XP, windows changed so that it rarely, if ever, BSODs, instead giving you the non-fatal error report box.

When explorer crashes, it almost always restarts automatically afterwards, and when it doesn't, you can kill off watson(if a crashed drwatson is preventing explorer from restarting), or directly run explorer from the task manager.

Only the worst errors, likely only in poorly written critical drivers will create a BSoD.

Looking back, that means that XP BSoDs constantly, but since it is no longer a fatal error, it is not very noticable at all, and you can continue despite it.

Edit: also, read this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/02/11/71307.aspx
Microsoft has put considerable effort into making sure that windows works despite the mistakes of major companies.

This is Bay12, we discuss burning innocents and efficient methods to kill off babies... I don't think that'd be much of a bad example :P

Oh dang.

Alex is supporting Mac?

I must know why.
All I see is a company out to rob the world of its money,
but putting a bunch of shiny lights all over their tractor,
and pretending that it is superior for few reasons.

Really, all they are doing is stiffing the customers,
and undermining people who actually KNOW something about computers,
 stealing our credibility and pride.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer windows, but as bad as most people thing Apple is, Macs aren't horrible for some things.  A friend of mine has a Macbook, and the thing came with one hell of a programming/development suite... admittedly, I'd still rather develop for windows or mac, but he does mostly web development and school stuff, so it's nice to have a clean computer that does only what you need it to.

Still, for those of us who like having a decent sized target audience, and the ability to actually play games...

The main thing that I hate about Apple is the bullocks misinformation that their advertisements have fed the general public. For example, that Macs =/= PCs. If, however, they had said "Hi! I'm an IBM compatible!" instead of "Hi! I'm a PC!", that would be fine. But to differentiate Macs and PCs? Criminal!

The other thing I can't stand is that they still haven't updated the iPod Nano 3rd Gen firmware so that Australian DSTs beyond 2008 are supported. Currently, they aren't, which causes issues after syncing (During DST, of course). I mean, come on. Just because there are newer models doesn't mean that the support should end.

That may be technically true, but I would never call one of those things a computer.
(Hence the quotes in my last few posts)

Anyways, I think I'll work on my game now, and get that lava inserted undergrounds.
That ought to be cool.

I prefer PCs, not because I prefer Windows over OSX, but because of the freedom they allow. It's like Lego Mindstorms NXT robotic construction kit versus prebuilt toy. Prebuilt toy may look nicer but NXT can is more flexible, it can be a car, a walking robot, vending machine, printer or scanner, pretty much anything you can imagine much like a PC can be a cheap office computer, a proccessing unit for render farm, gaming machine, even a control unit for large scale machinery, eg sewage proccessing plant or observatory.

Another thing: Comparing computers based on OS is wrong, saying PCs are bad because of Vista is like saying a coffe machine is bad because you put vomit in it instead of coffee beans.
