Wow, this release is really awesome - I didn't get the chance to play the last couple or so, but this is really shaping up to be a truly awesome project. The first thing I did was go to a waterplate, and watching everything work was awesome. can't wait to see what you add next.

I did catch some weird behavior that I couldn't manage to catch a screenshot of though - I was digging in the side of a wall, and it started raining. Then, a large sphere of dirt appeared where I was, and when I zoomed out to move out of it, it wouldn't let me. When I pressed S or A, however, the textures of the sphere that appeared shifted through the grass and dirt colors.

Oh, also, are there any plans to put in a skybox or something similar? In fact, it'd be awesome to have the sun represented by an in-game object, and the same goes for clouds.

Here's the ugly truth mates:

Local map size is 600x600x600, but most if it is empty.
Actually, only the middle 200 is full,
unless you have just walked in from another map, in which case that map will still be visible,
but you won't be able to interact with it.
I'm considering dropping this feature altogether,
because it seems like an insane stretch just to have the place you came from still visible.

I'm sort of redoing map creation anyways, so I'll probably cut that down.
I'm thinking that might free up some RAM,
so James may be onto something.

I think he meant to say local maps too,
considering that the local maps are 200^3 and the world map is 150^3.

Anyways, once I get ice and snow melting,
I'll start on a temperature transition,
so Cloud Scream can go through seasons.

There is also a day/night cycle in the works.

EDIT:

I read this post like a day later,
and I can't believe how incoherent I sounded.
Sorry dear readers.

Awesome, I get snowed in away from 'net access for a week and you add textures and a bunch of other odds and ends...

Keep it up!  ;D

He he.

That would be from accidentally hitting the Caps Lock key.
Capital letters are debug commands for testing materials.

For lots of fun playing around, try a capital 'X'.
That makes a water source.

And now I feel kinda silly.
Haha, I probably should've seen that.

I'll try my best to keep that in mind while playing so I don't find any more 'bugs.'

Don't worry about it. : )

I'm testing a full seasonal year, and if things end up the way they started,
 I'll release it.

After I've finished day/night transition of course. ; )

When I try to run it, I get a message saying "The paging file is too small".

Tons of update.

First off, there are day and night.
The transition is sort of bad.
It's too dark during the day, not dark enough during the night.

Shadows are in too.
As in, things underground are dark, and trees cast a small shadow.

And most importantly:
Seasonal changes!
The year is 200 days long, each day at 4000 frames.
Every 50 days is a temperature pattern change.
Snow starts mid-fall through mid-spring.
Trees only pollinate during the spring.

Here are some screens of the test map,
which I ran for a full 4 hours at high speed to make it around the year.
On second thought, I should have taken a screen of the initial map, and of fall,
but I didn't think it would make it all the way around.

Winter:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The snow got higher than that building at its deepest.

Spring:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
When the snow melted, the resulting flood took that building apart.

Summer:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
After a whole year, the grass is pretty messed up,
but I intend to have that fixed by next version.

Unless you intend to play past an entire year,
it should not be an issue.
(like 10 hours at intended speed without saving capabilities)

Anyways, here is the save:
Cloud Scream 0.43 (Days and Seasons)

I'll be polishing it tomorrow, and uploading again with day/night looking better,
and grass being more industrious with its expansion.

No idea.
Let me look up my current setup...

I have 3.0 GB.
I suppose this might not be a RAM problem,
but that is my first guess.

If I may make a suggestion, maybe you could decrease the saturation as well as the luminosity to make the night seem more convincing. I haven't played long enough to get to an interesting (i.e. Fall or Winter) season yet, but I played around a bit with the debug tools and collapsed some buildings. Still looking for a cave, though.
Keep up the good work.

I'll try it on my other computer. It will undoubtably freeze because of the broken graphics card, but it has 2.5 gigs of ram compared to this comps 2.

That might help.
If it is running really slow,
try pressing g like 20 times,
and turning the graphics off with 't'.

That should get you some frames.
