The 0.23 is the version number, as in "Cloud Scream 0.23".
7zip should work, it works for everything.
Tell me how it turns out.

Anyways, here is the blunt truth.
I have a major project due Wednesday, and a major project due Thursday.
I can't really do any work Wednesday, since I have class all day.
So tomorrow and Thursday morning are my best bets.

Sorry, no work possible until Friday.

I would be trying, but DF caught my interests again('specially adventure mode ;D) and I haven't really been feeling like transfering files to my desktop. :(

Eh... I'll try it out soon.

That's okay, I'm sort of bogged down too right now.
If I wasn't doing school work,
I'd probably be playing Morrowind or Dwarf Fortress.
Hard choice, as I am starting to develop an itch for both of them.

Just an idea,

but if your world was generated from a random seed then there would be no need to save the map data, just the seed.

Cheers!

Except that the player can dig sections out and otherwise change the map.  Now, if you can find a way to save the changes efficiently then you probably could save space by saving a seed and the changes, but I don't really have any idea where to start though... still, it'd be worth considering.

On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

Generally, though, you might be able to save the seed and a subset of the whole thing containing what areas were modified, since a player wouldn't usually change every Z-level, and rarely edit every square on the map.

Maybe also, if the entire map was marked as changed, just load it directly, otherwise generate and paste the saved box over the matching area of the regenerated terrain.

But for now, for simplicity, it would be better to stick with the plain format.

I was thinking of saving the map in 25x25x25 sections, (Each local map is 150x150x150)
but that would add extra loading time while it accesses those extra files.
So 3 big files is currently preferred.
I have to get two minor writings done by tomorrow night,
and a major project done by the next morning.

That would leave me free Friday - Sunday, except I have to write to more things by Monday.
Basically, this week is going to be horrible.

By the time I get back, I'll probably just forget about the binary save file for now,
and save the extra stuff as text also.
Maybe.

It is cool that it saves the seeds though,
the persistent maps are neat.

EDIT:

Okay, today is English Day.
I call it that, because between now and ten hours from now,
I have to finish four major English assignments.
I also have classes during four of those hours.

Tomorrow will be Western Civ Day.
It will be much better than today.

I can relate.  Today is Organic Chemistry Day.  The irony of it is that I skipped my organic chemistry lecture to get things done.  Tomorrow is Group Project Final Paper I Don't Want to Write Day.

English Day was a smashing success, albeit a nasty headache.
Today is far worse though.
The guidelines for this paper are so strict,
the teacher practically wants a word for word copy of the text book,
except not.
Also, seven to eight pages is way too long for most of the possible topics.
The Wikipedia article for a couple of these is less than a page.
I hope this thing works out.

At least tomorrow will be nice.

EDIT:

Okay, three pages out of the way so far,
of the most tedious rephrasing of historical facts I've ever participated in.

That's half way, giving me three hours to finish the next three pages,
and BS myself up a list of library sources and citations.

EDIT:

Oof.
Finished, with two hours to spare. Nearly five pages long, with tons of extra spacing.
Tracking down credible bibliography sources and citation was a little more difficult though.
I'm happy it's over.

EDIT:

It's all over, and I've survived for now.
Alfie is working on an improved save system for my game,
while I start work on more adverse features.
Please note that he volunteered of his own free will,
and we are going to make sure I understand
how this new system works before I go ahead and plug it in.

Okay, I've decided that most of the features I'm going to add aren't awesome enough to be spoilers,
expect for the final one. So expect more info on those soon.

Before I dive into the map generation rewrite, I want to add some fun tools to the game,
just for debug, or playing around.

The first I've added, is a building generator,
which puts an empty building around the cursor, of random size and height.
You can remove the doorways and windows yourself.

There will be a few more utilities like this, and I expect them to be added to the map generation soon.
So expect to find the occasional random building when you are exploring.

I'll probably release something tomorrow, with minor changes.
If I can get the new map gen working,
it will be ultimately better though.

Either way, expect a release tomorrow,
with primitive saving, and some added minor features.

Don't worry, this thing is going to get more interesting in the next few days.
I'll be sure to mix in the small interesting features with the larger rewrites.

So here's the current grocery list,
to be known as the Exploration Set:

-New Map Generation
-Map Boundary Expansion
-Sky HFS
-Ultimate Secret Project

After each of these changes, the game will be released,
as they are all pretty stable on their own.

Once I get this lot out of the way, I think I will return to water, or perhaps start AI.
I'm thinking I will need to work out a basic eating system before then, but I'm not sure.

I've been working on some strange new structures,
which will add variety once I get the new map generation and expansion working.

Sounds good?
Also, no screens of mystery structures or HFS development.
Sorry.

I'm not certain, just pretty sure, but I think there will be no 'items' of a traditional sense, there will be creatures though and... You'll just have to wait and see!
