Strange mood problems
« on: September 25, 2009, 11:19:15 am »

I got two strange moods lately.
The first was a farmer, the second was a recruit.
They got the mood near the booze stock (which was also the way to the food stock, the bedrooms and the dining room, so that place kills the framerate) and they remain idle. There are lots of path fail messages in the error log. The first one died. The second got the mood a few minutes ago.
What should I do ?

If they don't immediately claim a workshop, then it means you don't have the workshop they want. Check his skills (v-g) to see what he wants - if he has a skill that produces goods with quality levels (excluding Cook), make sure you have a workshop for the one with the highest level, otherwise make sure you have a Craftsdwarf's workshop (which is probably what the farmer wanted).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Are you sure they have access to the appropriate workshops, most likely craftsdwarf workshops? If you have it and the dwarf does not path to it, build another next to him/her. Note that magma and non-magma buildings are considering different workshops by moody dwarves; for example a dwarf may want specifically to use a magma glass forge rather than a normal one.

The wiki ought to have a list of moodable skills.

I NEVER lock the way to the workshops (unless there is a moody dwarf). I checked the moody dwarf's professions, she's a dyer and there is an accessible dyer's shop.
Anyway, here's a part of the error thing.
path fail: dwarf,Strange Mood,169,176,16 -> 168,162,15: Id #46282:Path Goal Set Mood Building:Station Seek Commander at 172,175,16
Also, she doesn't appear in the military screen !

Dyers are not moodable, so she's looking for a Craftsdwarf's workshop. If she doesn't show up in the Military screen, use v-p to de(A)ctivate her.

What should I do ?

There are only 2 possible solutions to every problem - magma, or read the wiki. (Or both.)

Wiki: "Mood"

I built the craftdwarf's worshop near the moody dwarf (right in the corridor that links the outside and the fort, so there are many poeple there). She took what she needed to the workshop, then remained idle in that workshop and asking for items that could be found in large amouts. I designated a stockpile near the workshop and put all the items she needed there, but that didn't work.

Check her preferences. She might be looking for specific kind of something
Eg: You might have tons of rock, but not the one she likes.

"Kulet Ducimilrom likes Galena, steel, pipe opal, glumprong, giant rat leather, amber, the color heliotrope, war hammers and cages. When possible, she prefers to consume pike, Dwarven rum and quarry bush leaves. She absolutely detests weasels."
She already took some obsidian and alunite, so I don't see where the problem is.

I've never seen them wanting a specific stone before. Only metals.

Can you post what she demands?

And worse comes to worse, you can get Dwarf Companion and check what she wants. It'll list what and how many. (And you can change it too, if you feel like it)

Stone, stone blocks, plant fiber cloth, bones, shell, cut gems, rough gems. She already has 4 stones and 2 bones.
PS : I have everything but the rough gems.

If she only has 4 stones and 2 bones (is that 2 stacks of bones or one stack of 2 bones?), then the order you posted cannot be right, as dwarves will always gather their materials in the order stated but will always gather all of one material before proceeding to the next (i.e. if they ask for stone, bone, shell, they won't get the shell until they get the bone, but if they ask for stone, bone, stone, shell, they won't get the bone until they get two stones).

In fact I wanted her to get valuable material, so I did something things with the forbid and unforbid keys. I saw her getting a stack of 3 bones that I forbid.
It's 2 stack of one bones each.

Well, check that the things she wants aren't still Forbidden. The only reason it'll look like your case is that she can't find the item she has found before.
