He's a minister of war. Mixing reality up with video games is part of the job requirements.

But he actually said 'player-character'.

And claimed he'd join what I can only assume is an Anime battalion or whatever. I don't get it.

Caliphate. You know, a state ruled by a Caliph.

In IWM's case, a New one.

... 'player-character?'

Well if you give me a choice of two years locked up where the worst thing that might happen to me is rape and a year getting shot at I know what I'd choose.

Lol, way to understate prison. You have a good chance of getting knifed, bullied, tortured, have crap in your food, and when you leave, it's impossible to get anywhere.

At least with one year of war, you're unlikely to be on the front lines. And you'll return a hero if you actually get shot at (at least to some people). It's a pretty logical choice not to choose prison.

Canadian Army motto: "our ambition has no bounds". :D

 :D Well...that's Canada.

(not that I mean that in a bad way since Canada's pretty great...and they passed a law earlier this year that gave me citizenship, which is tight)

I was referring to the US army though, or the Soviet army of yesteryear, or pretty much any massive empire's army. The idea that the US army is just there to defend America from invasions and attackers is laughable.

Canadian army isn't for defence either. It's for burning Washington if Americans ever get too cocky.

Only join the army if you think killing people is happy-fun-time.

In the unlikely chance Sweden ever has a draft, my most likely plan of action is self-mutilation. I don't think they put people with dual compound fractures on the front lines, and if you hit just right even modern medicine should take some time to make it good enough to walk on.

I was thinking of doing a gap year in the Australian Defence Force after high-school, if they let me. Then after traveling or something, I was thinking that an option for me would be to study in the ADF and go from there.

What i really dislike, tbh, is people that join the military so that they can just do their 4 years and then jump off with their qualifications and do other stuff. FFs guys, stop wasting my tax money >:(

Actually, EJ, I entertained that idea for a time. Army training without being obliged to go to war.

Still, I want to do a gap year in England or Germany.

Whether this was directed to me or not, by "go from there", I meant that I would evaluate my options and that time and go from there. Whether that's leaving the military and pursuing a civilian life or continuing in the military.

That's actually pretty true.

As a former grunt in the US Army, i can tell you that the army is mostly a support mechanism.  For its sheer size, only a very small amout are actually combat personel.  That being said, it is possible to be caught in combat while providing support, but that means that a:  someone screwed up or b:  someones in trouble and the support must go, period.

If you want a cool combat job without the bullets, go for the "Kings of Battle".  Artillery rulz.  Just bring ear plugs.  Lots and Lots of ear plugs.

And yes, they own you.  Why this would seem unusual to someone, I dont understand.

Dont worry about the Drill's Sgt.'s.  By the end of basic training, you will be having the time of your life.
Also, the army will TRAIN you do do all kinds of things, and any civilian company with a brain will take a retired vet over a green college grad anyday of the week.  Heck, it will take an NCO with four years service over a college grad any day of the week.  Now I know someone will say, "but the army wont teach you "x" tech skill" or whatever, and no, it wont teach every "x" tech skill you can think of, but a company will hire you to be the "x" skill guys boss since you will have developed leadership training and proven your ability to manage very difficult tasks under very difficult circumstances.  Plus the schooling is great - Army vets get more school monies from the Gov than any other branch, all military get special home buying breaks.  Many colleges are offering up to 1 free year for service men and women now.  But, yes, you must be willing to attach yourself to something greater than yourself and be a part of something that affects the real everyday lives of people around the world.

Wow jude, do you actually believe your delusions?  how long have you lived in this fantasy world?  I strongly suggest disconnecting your tv for awhile and going outside to see how the world really works

If they really own you, then how long is the minimum term? I was going for 2-3 years,I'd like to try out for somekind of intel or commanding job but grunting will do finely.
