Would be fun to make adamantine clothing too, and layer with that.

Adamantine clothes, Leather, Chain and Plate all at once. With an adamantine cloak over it.

Think anything can hurt a dwarf wearing all that?

Sounds like Morul..

If the dwarf in question made all of those pieces of armor, then it is Morul.

As far as I know, you can't have leather, chain, and plate on the same dwarf at the same time, pick 2, it just can't work for the dwarves, besides, they would need legendary armour user at the least, or they will seem like just a round metal ball with a beard.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

You can't wear more than two layers on any body area, so you can wear a cap with helm.

If your armor was 50% as good as two other civs and 30% as good as a third, do you really think you'd do well in war? That'd be like trying to engage a rocket-launcher mounted Humvee with a pistol riding a tricycle.

different pieces of clothing and armor allow for some amount of clothing to be underneath based two stats, one for how bulky an item is(size) and one for how roomy it is(permit)

ignoring other clothing for a moment, this allows for a cap to fit under a helm and a chain shirt and either leather or plate armor to be worn together.  For instance, shoes and both types of boots have a size of 20 or more and a permit of 15, so cannot be worn together, but socks can be worn under any of the three because they have a size of 10
(there's a third stat that defines armor as form fitting, which can be found on leather and plate armor, and you can't wear more than one piece of form fitting armor)

pretty much all body armors are roomy enough to fit two or three other body armors underneath

this table:
http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Armor#Armor_Levels
has all the armor you can make in vanilla DF
probably also spoilers, if you're trying to avoid them(the rest of the article talks about all the other factors in armor protection and stuff.)

So,

Cap, Helm
Tunic, Robe, Chain/Plate, Coat?
Gloves. Gauntlets, Mittens
Leggings, Greaves
Socks, High boots

Is the most you can wear?

You can't wear leggings with greaves. Both are [SHAPED], I think. That means only one armor piece can be worn in that location.

I can say from experience that most of this is true.  But I'm not sure if it's shaped that does it; I was under the impression that was what allowed a piece of armor to be made from metal.

Well, I don't have the DF raws with me right now, but I think [METAL] determines whether or not something, well, can be made out of metal.

Oops, sorry, meant Trousers. Should be ok then, right?

Size of current item < permit of next item = equipable right?
