Is flu dangerous?? ???

Yeah, a lot of people actually die from run of the mill flus. It's surprising but it happens.

Having had a really bad flu myself, it doesn't surprise me at all, because-

does the flu being dangerous have anything to do with dehydration from vomiting/diarrhea?

Absolutely.  I described in WD's other thread about a time I had a flu so bad that even water would make me violently ill, and since it lasted for a week, I was nearly wasted by the time it settled enough to let me drink anything.

As long as you stay well-rested and keep your fluids up, and don't underestimate its potential, normally no.  Most of the deaths come from people just being stupid about it (though there are, of course, relatively uncommon exceptions).  I had it a few weeks ago.  Caused me my first nose bleed ever, I'll give it that.  It's really just an inconvinience, because you need to stay home and deal with coughing and sinus stuff.  Although, I did have a medicine to treat the symptoms of coughing and congestion, and it had a warning that it could cause constipation.  Might have something to do with why I didn't deal with much of what Dragooble asked about.

Yeah, just make sure you rest and keep drinking, Worker Drone.  Drinking water, that is.  Not alcohol.  Although a little of the latter might actually help . . . but I'm no doctor.  Say, someone should look into that.

Well by surprising I mean the average person on the street might not know. They had commercials around here to tell people "HEY! It's a serious illness guys! You can die!" XD

And I am familiar with that fact, I had a BAAADDD one when I was 16. Got hospitalized.

No man. Most of the deaths come from people who are already weakened for whatever reason. Normal people in principle should survive it just fine. Goes without saying that yes, one should take a care if the disease takes a turn for the worse, but I doubt that anyone would stand without rehydrating him or herself and/or choking to death without seeking assistance just to earn man-points, and otherwise I wouldn't be concerned.

Seconded, and the following:

The normal flu takes many more death's compared to the swine flu, but those death's are mostly elders and little children. For the swine flu those (relatively) few deaths are mostly in the 20-40 age class, but everyone should be less chaotic about it and live on. I'd personally prefer it now than in half a year (summer is declining and the immune system is still strong :))

Not that I was expecting you to die, but now I'm all preparations have to get shoved into the locker with my stolen identities and voodoo dolls.

I have a strong immune system.

I mean, not enough to where I won't feel as shitty as I should, but its fun to imagine my white blood cells literally beating the shit out of whatever virus happens to pick my body for a house party.

I'm talking excessive force, shotguns and water cannons, and dogs to chase 'em away.

Sort of like that.

Reminds me of the George Carlin skit where he says his immune system "doesn't fuck around" and "BOMBS THE SHIT OUT OF'EM!".

Just to check, no one here is taking anti-biotics for the flu, right?  Cause those don't work on the flu, as the flu is a viral disease, rather than a bacterial one.

(I'm guessing someone here might be, but hey, I'm not looking for a response.  Just spreading knowledge).

Interesting thing about virii, they arn't acctually alive or dead.

They have no proper organelles (like mini organs in a cell) and no DNA so they can't be classed as alive. Whats really interesting is that they change cells (inside you) genetics to reproduce more of themselves by forcably injecting some RNA (imagine it as... a software program) into the processor (the DNA helix) of your cell and overriding it.

now whats really interesting, is that this means we can, with the right technology, change people genetics. Interesting huh?

Also, you produce 8 gallons of mucus a day when your ill.

really? i guess most of it isn't produced in your nose because eight milk jugs of mucus can't fit inside your nasal cavity.
