the problem with the water trap was that one of the bridges was hooked up to the wrong lever. so when i wanted the water to come rushing in it also opened up the entrance bridge, letting the orcs escape. It seems you hooked that bridge up twice or smthing.

Been keepin an eye on your fort here, and since you're discussing levers:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Any suggestions on avoiding the "closest guy, 3 levels down and thus about 4 minutes' walk away, pulls the lever" crap? Even when I recruit civs and dismiss them while paused and ordering Pull the Lever, they often just walk off to "break" or whatever.  Anyone at all found a solution to this?

You could lock two or maybe even three dwarfs inside.

I always thought it would be fun to build a little tiny fort for designated lever pullers. With a small 3x3 farm, still, etc. It would be completely locked away from the main fort and use an airlock system for when new levers are needed.  I think a population of 5 would keep it reliable.

That's awesome, almost exactly what I'm currently doing. Was going to drop food in from outside in stacks of prepared meals, with a well. There's an airlock involving a bridge and locked doors. I also figured out a way to create an elevator for items with retractable bridges, but it only goes down.

you know, you could just dump it down, no need for a fancy elevator. i'm pretty sure that items can't get hurt/damadged.

Did you just say "no need for a fancy __"? You... cravenly undwarfish fiend!

Besides, I DO have a hole in the ceiling, but that's boring and MUCH less useful. An elevator is dwarfish, unnecessarily complicated, AND allows transport for an exact number of z-levels. Flip a lever to select a level, flip another to drop goods. Boo-yay. Also, an elevator has a safety door to stop idiots from walking underneath falling death.

The safety and the multiple Z level things are awsome ideas.

And for those of you who haven't noticed, i've been updating the post with the journal in it.

Ok so a bit off topic. I just downloaded the nano-fort utility and I find it amazing.  Does anyone know if there have been succession games with a nanofort?
Also, if not then I would like to submit the idea of starting a game with nanofort and embark anywhere. Where we start atop HSF.

EDIT2: oh, nvm, it's gone up to 20.

EDIT3: HOLY FUCKING SHIT! This Retarded Hydra Plummets the FPS to 5!

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I'm trying the nanofort idea on my own, I haven't gotten to any thing interesting yet, but it's weird cause the entire map fits on the screen. The arrows buttons... they do nothing.

that's creepy, having the arrowkeys do nothing... *shudder*

also, is this windowed mode? cause that doubles the creepiness.

Yes, it is creepy. I use d16 which changes how the window settings work. But it is full screen.

...and, DONE!

Map: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-7295-constructrain

Save File: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=1519

Notes for the next guy= Before you do ANYTHING, look at all the notes [N] that you can find, they explain ALOT. The king's throne room needs 3 more platinum/aluminum blocks for the floor to be complete, one that you can see, and 2 more under the forbidden artifact crowns. I suggest trying to make as many iron bars as possible, because i requested 20 full sets of iron chainmail armor to be made. Also, read the map.
