The spike cannot be 'got'. It is attached to the wall, apparently spring-loaded.

As you just aptly demonstrated, a person hit by this trap could easily slide into the water and be gone. You wonder why the hell this got set up in the first place, and by whom?

Sidestep past spike, if there's a path beyond it.

If that's not possible, swim. But take a damn careful look at the water first, and throw something in while you're at it. Who KNOWS what's down there!

The water looks very, very deep. You can't see the bottom, and you're not entirely sure you know how to swim.

In the little cove behind the spike, you find another ripped piece of paper.
