Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

they are very alive, and as helthy as one can expect from a kobold. They show no choherent bahavior and no matter what you do only babble random cylables.

 He already said they were alive and physically well. That creature was apparently just and illusion. A horribly, terrifying, mind blending illusion. If that was a ghost, and not a demon, I wonder how the person must have lived.

You can't get through to them enough to affect either really, and kobold don't have advanced sciences like psychology.

 Even if they don't have theories or complicated systems, there must be some kobold out of <100 that has picked up some of how the mind works.
 Also, suppression is something that happens normally, especially for the worse things. There should be a few things you can do with them to help it along (like trying to recreate a setting from before they had the experience).
