Something more important is that he needs to make that decision himself.

Are Swedes a sheltered people?

Armok, you need to go live life.

Pretty much all the Swedish people I've met act like that, no matter what life they've lived.
It's like a national mindset or something.

Why? "Life" is a pointless battle slaving to survive, when not being mind-controlled by selfish genes to make you a cog in the giant torture-machine called nature. I have it much better here, surrounded by oceans of thought in the calm embrace of internet, focusing on things that might have some semblance of meaning beyond the thraldom of biology.

My stereotype of Swedes is that they're blond, musically talented software pirates.

Not to pile on, but you are so not beyond the "thralldom of biology."

Let me employ subtlety here and offhandedly remark that hearing V's of geese move away overhead makes me happy.
Not that I hate geese, it's a good thing to hear.

Curiously, I was planning to go near Sweden soon. Norway.

Footkerchief's avatar made me happy.

Took me years to develop these skills, I'm untouchable thanks to these pills!

By contrast, my Danish relatives are always either partying with booze and drugs and move away from home first chance they get, or, um, normal-ish, depending on their age. Of course, I'm also quarter-German, but I've never met any of my German relatives.

Once a pirate, always a pirate, using electricity or longships is irrelevant when sailing the salty torrents!

Oh, is it ancestry chat time?  I'm 1/4 Japanese, 1/4 German and Penn. Dutch, and the rest is probably just French and assorted British.
