Stumbled upon this, hadn't seen this one before. Pretty darn cool, using Conway's Game of Life to play Conway's Game of Life.

This month was a month of reckoning for my new job - amateur day trader.  I set a goal to make $3500, at least.  I'm well over that goal, I can say.

Im honestly not convinced this is a real job I can have.  It's only going to snowball, since I dont pay $3500 in bills.

Is this not akin to professional gambling? I'd imagine you're never too far away from ruin, it'd only take a few bad days in a row. Though I don't know anything about daytrading, I only possess a lingering distrust of both gambling and capitalism.

Well, I have lost a few thousand in one day, but in practice if you cut out at a pre-determined level then the losses never really add up.  I'm not recommending anyone here do it, but I seem to have rather good intuition and especially good timing.

I 'bet' tens of thousands a day, including on margin, but, at least for me, I typically ride a trend rather than invest or blindly day trade.

I'm currently telling myself that as long as I can ensure a high win/loss ratio it isnt gambling as much as statistical movement.

Also note that a loss on my end isnt a complete loss of funds as in traditional gambling.  If I lose, I lose anywhere from 1% to 5% of my trade, which is typically 2-10% of my portfolio.  what Ive been doing is finding volatile trades that I feel confident in, and going all in.

Macy's had a booming quarter? - all in long.  Up 5 points.
Nikola is a fraud? - All in short.

My bread and butter stocks are, uncoincidentally but unintentionally, related to meme stocks.  PTON, AMD, UPST, and Ford.  If I cant find something anywhere else, I tend to go here.

----

Yes, its gambling, but only because I cant point to a product and say -I do that-.  Its kind of torn at me, tbh.

P: Dead serious though, it's not unusual for me to make or lose in a day what I used to make in a week in my older retail jobs. $700 a day is pretty reasonable, but no longer exceptional.  And Im just a relatively conservative small fish in a deep ocean.

Man, I wish I had money when AMD was still $20/share. I knew it was going to explode but I didn't have any leverage to throw at it  :'(

The broker I'm looking at charges £24 per quarter for a tax free ISA, then stamp duty and spread on top of that.

Seems like a fairly steep cost just to get started, but it's the best execute-only broker I've seen so far.

To go back to my deep love of stormy weather for a moment: This morning I was lying in my bed, half-awake, my 3 alarm clocks are going off, I'm too lazy to do anything other than just smack the snooze button on all 3 of them over and over, I'm just feeling like it's gonna be a nice, lazy day where I'll sleep in for a little while and.. *Loud Thunderclap* AW SHIT MY NEURONS ARE ACTIVATED NOW I'M READY TO GET UP AND ENJOY THIS FUCKING THUNDERSTORM BOIS!!!

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?
My ship exploded midflight, but all the shrapnel totally landed on Alpha Centauri before anyone else did.  Bow before me world leaders!

I just got like a 5$/hr raise plus some monetary-related perks.

I am floored.

Very nice! That's a pretty fantastic raise, and one well-deserved (or so I assume).

I'm going to assume so as well, XD

We've been underpaid for a long while, and now we are slightly above market rate. It's a very welcome change in tone for the company as a whole. I'm not the only one who got this attention. A lot of people who really deserved it got it.
