I don't have a clean disc on me, so I'm currently running whatever this thing is to try and install an Ubuntu overlay atop the existing Windows system. Is terribly unwise of me and my techie friend was horrified and I really should have just waited to use the disc drive like a good little Tux

That would be Fran Drescher. Her normal voice is very strange to hear once you're conditioned to hear her comedy voice.

Also got a laptop! Is not new, is not mine per se (it's from work), but is good enough and the battery is fine...ish... only last like 2 hours, 1 if I work hard on it but it sure do wonders to cope with the daily blackouts that last between 3 and 4 hours generally. If I'm not working pete can watch some cartoons on it and relax.

No USB drives? Pretty much all distros (including every flavor of Ubuntu) support installing from them.

Sure! Some lag on the offices construction but that was to be expected. We are currently a week behind schedule and I calculate we migth end up a whole month beyond the proyected date but is not my fault so I'm fine but annoyed by this. I'll rather be full working already.
