Wouldn't the test for the p-zombie be against the things that aren't testing it? That is, the indifference of time and nature? I mean, that all those internal qualities that make up the internal consciousness actually just pragmatic things that allow for survival in the long term? One can respond to stimuli, but being planning long term against an unforeseeable future and using one's imagination require an internal life. I'd think, atleast.

While existence involves suffering, it can also involve good experiences. Most people agree it’s bad to treat people like property. I don’t think creatures that can think should be treated as property. Don’t treat someone like crap just because their body might be different. Just because someone might not think exactly like you doesn’t mean they should be treated like less than you. Why does this suddenly become different when we are dealing with nonhuman entities with their own thoughts?

Dad here: The answer from my perspective is both yes and no. Why? There are a lot more states in the world than suffering. Is it unethical to deny the creation of knowledge, music, poetry, art, engineering, and euphoria?
