I'm not sure if it's because the apathetic veil's finally been pierced, or if there's been a demographics shift, or what, but the BBC HYS has become pro-privacy on the whole. It's nice to see people are actually concerned about governments and corporations holding a metric shitload of data on them now.

I remember back in the 90s when the very idea of using your real name online was a point and shame offense. 

Oh, how far we've fallen for the "Oh, but you can TRUST *US* with your information! We *Promise* to keep it safe and secure!" line from corporations, especially when it came with a pricetag discount on a service.

I've watched very uncomfortably over the past 2 decades as facebook rose like an unholy horror, poised to devour everyone's privacy, while people joyfully shared their dick pics on it, and thought I was a chicken little for asserting that it was quite possibly the worst thing ever, and was basically a voluntary drop-off chute for the NSA and pals.

I realize this is the happy thread, but DAYUM.  This has been a long time coming if people really are starting to wise up to this.

People overestimate the importance of the individual in such data collection. The NSA does not actually care what you browse.

Found out that Brazilian Wrestling Federation (BWF) is a thing that exists. I have some criticisms about it (no female fighters, for instance), but otherwise I've been enjoying the videos on their youtube channel.

I don't really have a way to keep in touch with me extended family outside of Facebook but I'll figure it out.

I avoid Facebook and Twitter as much as possible. It’s a deep, dark rabbit hole with many portals to intresting cat dimensions, but if you go down ifpt, you’ll soon forget to come out and then your toast burns and you can small it from the bottom, and you’re looking for a way out, but theres nothing but cats, cats in every direction, endless rivers ofmpeople spewing out meaningless rubbish that no-one will ever look twice at before it’s lost and forgotten by everyone and everything, never to be seen again under the endless, endless thing that is Facebook. Or Twitter.

If you ignore Facebook and just search google you can have cats and toast.

The big lie from the man Facebook is convincing you that they are the ideal route to cats and toast, when really they are just dangling the cats over your head from a stick to get your data and now the cat is mad because it hates being on a stick its a cat and its probably swatting at your toast now and ruining everything but you don't realize it because the cats and toast are right there in front of you so you don't go to look elsewhere for a better way to get cats and toast and it's all a trick to control you, man.
