I think because they don't test your own language the same way foreign language classes work.  For one thing, proper grammar rules aren't the way people actually talk.  Not to mention that American classes on English are on literature, not language per se.

Oh yeah, I'm happy today that I didn't oversleep class again.

I speak with essay grammar.

I speak with a 1920's dialect.

There are far too many rimshots and not nearly enough slide-whistle-noises in this thread.

I don't talk quite like I type.  When I talk, there's a chance of any local accent coming out, or any mixture of more foreign accents coming out of my mouth.  Sometimes I don't seem to have an aceent at all.  It is an enigma.  As far as I can tell, the way I talk is a frankensteining of every way of talking I've heard.

It's the only language I know, and therefore I endeavor to be good at it.
Likewise.
Learn a real man's language . . . French!  ;D

...no.

That's enough 'that's what she said' jokes.
At least keep it to the Plump Helmet thread.

Plump Helmet thread is locked.  And for good reason if you read through the end of it.

I'm happy that today I bought Arkham Asylum, even if it chugs like a fratboy in molasses on my comp.

I am happy that I finally managed to not be sick on a home-game day for my high school football team.  I'm not on it, of course, but it's good to finally be able to go to a game.  Especially now that we have a good team this year.  In years past, we had a team that, well . . . it'd be embarrassing to tell you how bad the scores were for us.  The game I saw last night was the best I've seen since freshman year, when two guys from a rival school came and vandalized the whole campus on the monday before the game with said rival school.  Fortunately, those two were stupid; we have signs all over notifying video surveillance, and then they don't even where masks. ;D
