Learning smithy work is fun

you know, I've been toying around with the idea for a while. I find the concept of shaping stuff out of metal strangely appealing. Plus my great-great-great grandfather was a smith in Cestona. It would be sort of traditional. :p

I used to do a little blacksmithing in my old school. It's pretty fun, satisfying, and really hardens your arm.

Teacher wouldn't let me make anything cool though.

Building up the workspace you need is pretty tiring, and it sucks when you get too close to the fires, but it is really fun. It's very hypnotising and even when you mess up it's just another run through the fire to make it right.

Is it expensive to set up/hard to get the materials? How much/what kind of room is needed?

No.  He really didn't.  Pre-Jesus morals were extremely different.  You have no idea.  Imagine all your moral concepts concerning politics, courtship, and friendship, strip them away, and replace them with totally alien concepts that are described with the same names used in your original morals.  Prostitution, even where it is legal, is considered very shady nowadays.  Theology does not affect this view much.  Back in ancient Rome, it was a perfectly acceptable profession, and it was perfectly acceptable for men to adulterate (but not women).

It makes me happy that this is not the case in modern times.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I am reminded of that ED page about Myah Walker, which had a flashing logo on top saying "DEATH TO THE MUTANT, DEATH TO THE HERETIC. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS"

Not really. Just need something to keep the heat from the fire a bit contained (I've got one of those iron trash bins, which works ok, and I made a cinder-block rectangle which works fantastic). Some form of bellows, such as a leafblower with the triggery part taped down, is very helpful. An anvil you will, more likely than not, have to order in, if you want it to have all the proper parts for different things (Mine has special holes and slots for... crimping? I believe that is the process). Fairly cheap, all things considered.
As far as the room goes, keep away from fuel sources, and be outdoors.

Mmm, sweet, sweet sacrilege.

In more on-topic news, taking the first step toward fighting debilitating anxiety has made me (sort of) happy today.

Potentially getting a job that pays 20 bucks an hour. Only 8 hours a week but that beats the shit out of the zero hours a week I'm working right now. Yay economy!

Fil 14: F
Would you believe I got through my Arabic and Islamic studies courses by stumbling across everything, but still managed to get an A- in both of them? Hell, I can barely read Arabic because of the small font everyone uses. Plus, I never got easy to read Arabic books as a kid.
