That's pretty cool!  I only smoke once a year, and not even this year, but it really should be legal.  It's objectively less harmful than alcohol by pretty much every metric, and the enforcement in the US is...  This is the Happy Thread, so I'll go with "a problem".

I heard one of the Kardassians convinced Trump to support a bill that would decriminalize it here, so...  Madness of that sequence of events aside, I hope that happens.

I talked to a really cool older man at the gym yesterday. Though we've only spoken a total of 2-3 times total, he greets me with "I'm glad you're here." and the sincere kindness behind the words almost made me tear up right there.

Many reasons, not all of which are bad or wrong

Same reasons they drink, I should imagine.

Not good reasons in my estimation, but there you have it. The only way a large percentage of humanity has to cope with reality is to periodically disregard it entirely.

Basically this.

It's not identical but it has mostly the same risks. Over-consumption paired with complex tasks and/or judgement etc. I expect MJ is less risky, since there's no culture of "smoke it until you literally pass out" like there is with alcohol.

As long as people aren't actively smoking it in public areas (except in specially designated areas for it) aren't driving or operating heavy machinery, doing things that require your judgment and motor skills to be at full potential (such as emergency services) and keep it out of reach of children and pets (apparently it's toxic to cats) I'm fine with it. I think that should be the rules for alcohol and cigarettes as well tbh

It's certainly less risky to people around you. Google drunk drivers vs stoned drivers.

Quote
It's clear marijuana use negatively affects one's ability to drive, making a person twice as likely to get in an accident. However, the odds are demonstrably worse when drinking and driving. An analysis of federal crash data finds that drivers who are young (20-something) and at the legal limit for driving (blood alcohol content of .08 percent), are 20 times more likely to get into a deadly accident than their sober peers.
...
The difference in outcomes for stoned drivers versus drunk drivers lies in the way stoned drivers act behind the wheel. While drunk drivers tend to speed and make risky decisions, stoned drivers lollygag along and play it safe. They're more likely to be stopped for driving far below the speed limit than for surpassing it. Plus, marijuana enthusiasts often toke at home, which lessens the odds of them driving around stoned in the first place

So, marijuana does make you more accident-prone, because stoned drivers are too timid and drive too slowly. So, they cause a different type of accident to drunk drivers, who tend to speed. Plus, marijuana makes you less likely to want to go out for a drive in the first place. The rise of a marijuana culture would likely massively reduce fatal car accidents. (Offset by a rise in the number of pizza-delivery related incidents).

Don't get me started on beer+grass. That combo will basically glue anyone to their chair. Drunk person causing trouble? Some weed will likely shut them down completely. There are old rhymes such as "beer then grass, you're on your ass, grass then beer, you're in the clear". e.g. if you're stoned then go out for beers you tend to drink slower, whereas if you're drunk then smoke cones it hits you all at once.

Dogs have the same approach to food as most people do to contemporary art. They may not know what's good, but they know what they like.

My brother told me a story that his dog ate another dog’s shit, and then vomited itnup later that evening.

I am told the smell could not be described as pleasant.

Had a dog a couple years ago, when we were living in a place that was constantly surrounded by geese.  The dog was obsessed with eating goose poop.  When taking him for a walk, most of the time would be spent dragging him on as he pulled towards every goose turd nearby as if his life depended on eating it.

Dogs are really stupid about eating stuff they shouldn't.  Iirc, eating non-food objects is the #1 cause of death among pet dogs under a couple years old.
