The form of meditation I saw (I've not tried meditation, mind) involved similar stuff, but when stray thoughts wander into your head, you're supposed to acknowledge their existence, then drop them.

Then again, that was supposed to be anti-anxiety more than anything.

Yeah, I think the source and goal are major factors in how it's taught.  I learned from a class about Buddhism from... oh hey I found his faculty bio!  I learned from this guy.  An ordained Soto Zen Priest.  And check it out.  He studied under Master Roshi

So what I learned was the religious "seeking enlightenment" approach to meditation.

I am drinking lemonade right now. Well, lime juice. But that's because english is a silly language that doesn't recognize limes as True Lemons and the yellow lemons as the bastard cousin.

It's a bit bloody cold and early to be awake right now, but somehow I've managed it. Hopefully this cuppa coffee inspires me to continue such successes and plow straight into getting ready once I finish it. Also, I finally got around to buying paw paw ointment last night, and after applying some before bed my windburn (which had been rather awful, reaching a sort of crisis point in fact) seems much improved. Not sure I'll manage to coerce myself into having a shower before work, though, much as I need one... it's apparently only 15 degrees, which isn't that cold by Melbourne morning standards, but it still feels unpleasant enough to make showering seem pretty daunting.
