Insects are pretty great for this sort of thing too, it's not uncommon for the adult life stage to be unable to eat at all (instead it's just the larva that feeds actively, like in the case of sawflies and botflies) and instead exist for the sole purpose of finding a mate and laying some eggs somewhere.

Nature is full of a myriad of seemingly stupid lifeforms. 

I rather like the lifecycle of Mayflies, long larval period followed by a day of being eaten by stuff and desperately trying to lay eggs. It's a pleasantly meaningless existence in a way.

One of my personal favorites though have to be yeasts: all that hard work on their ancestors' part becoming multicellular and developing hyphae and all that good shit just tossed away because they like unicellular life better.
