Grats, Tawa!

*Soldier's oath: "I swear by the omniscient and omnipotent God..."
Soldier's guarantee: "I swear by my honour and conscience..."

O_o I wouldn't take that first oath because I'm religious. "Swear not by heaven, for it is God's throne, nor by the Earth, for it is His footstool. And swear not by your head, for who of you can change the colour of even a single hair? Simply let your yes, be yes; and your no, no. Any more than this is sin." Something like that, anyway.

Spent a worrying quantity of money at the optometrist today, but I will be getting glasses for relatively severe astigmatism. My vision is 110%, but I've been getting more and more eyestrain lately, so I'm glad to be correcting that finally.

Well, you can find it in both old and new testaments. :P  The prohibition against swearing is both "profane language", as well as "Swearing oaths" (like to do things).

If you want, I can find you numerous passages making these pronouncements.

Am I wrong in my impression of Finland not being particularly more religious than Sweden?
Finland in general considers religion a very personal thing. It's not that Finland isn't religious, it's that people don't talk about it. The military, however, puts effort into maintaining its soldiers' "ethical capability", which translates to much more religion than in civilian life. Most people just go along with it, but I don't really get anything of value from it, and so manage my capability in other ways, such as indeed by swearing by myself (and thus taking responsibility for myself).

It was gonna be recycled. Has a couple damaged buttons but otherwise works.

No offense, but as a Christian who lives in America, the religious environment you've been exposed to is highly likely to be more political than religious.  Not going to pretend that this is something I know about you.  But personal experience makes this overwhelmingly my first reaction to your post.

Quick glance shows it's maybe marginally more involved than the blunt reading of certain passages, but if you're interested and want to see a really plain statement go check out Matthew 5:33-37, overseer. Somewhere around there, anyway.

Matthew's kinda' fun some days. I've always liked the bit that warns really strongly about basically everything modern stateside churches tend to involve :V

I am having a blast playing the remastered version of Secret of Mana on Steam.
I am not going to leave my thoughts about it in this thread, but I might in a thread of its own, if I ever get the time to do it.

I want to see a remastered, english release of Secret of Mana 3.   It was never released in the US, and it is a damn shame. (Admits to playing the dejap translated rom. Very solid title, with pseudo-multiplayer support up to 3 players.)  They will probably never do it though, because Angela's outfit is very risqué.

Found out that Lithuania is celebrating the centennial of their independence declaration today, and that their national railway company decided to celebrate by having railway drivers play the national anthem using train whistles.

Which passage is it? I'm curious, also being a Christian in America.
