Storm help me, I love the pitched but cartoonishly PG war.  S'why I love Advance Wars, probably.  And zombie games.  But at the time, I didn't understand all that...  I just liked the fighting.  This was one of the most gruesome things I saw, back then.

I think the bridge represents the feel of making a good move in a strategy game
Charging a weak regiment in Gettysburg and seeing it flee, or using pikemen against cavalry in Civ, or a tank rushing enemy artillery in Advance Wars

(I only encountered the latter much later, but still.  It's a nice feeling, albeit a bit dark.)

So uh, this popped up in the free games thread, but Iji is now updated to 1.7. I still think Iji is one of the best games ever made even with it's little oddities and occasional clunkyness but if you've never played it before now is definitely a good time to give it a try.

Yes it is a classic yet relatively recent free platformer-RPG with intrigue, psychology, and choices.  Cave-story tier, better in my very humble opinion.
And apparently still gets updates, amazing.

Edit:  The download is iji2... the previous 1.6 update is not.  What did he do

Edit2:  The changelog is in the archive.  It's only mechanically spoily.  And just... I was about to go to bed, but I'm relaunching the game instead.  New ending(s?).

So apparently John Barrowman lives in my our general area, and apparently he was having a yard sale this weekend, so my family went there today while I was mending some ren faire clothes. They brought me back a nice new pair of slacks, and we've now got some of those rollerskates that you attach to your shoes.

Bonus! The pants are actually my size. Now I own 6 pairs of pants, and no longer will I forget to take one out to re-wear on laundry day.
