Actually, every day is one more step towards death, not just your birthdays.
If people were really logically consistant, they'd freak out about their mortality starting the day they're born, not in the middle of their life.

Fun fact: Babies cry a lot because they're freaking out about the aeons that they did not exist.

That's not possible until someone has explained the concept of mortality/death to us, which presupposes enough understanding of the language used to be able to communicate this concept effectively. That understanding must be built up slowly from a basis of absolutely nothing over a period of years. By that point, a habit has been established that reassures us that the world is largely benign and our actions have no life-threatening consequences, which will continue until we die. Ergo, no, babies are not likely to realize they are ever nearer death. Because it would be illogical if they did so.
