They are actual burger joints! In-in-Out is almost exclusively a West-Coast thing, and I'm pretty sure Five Guys doesn't extend much further east.

There are five guys around here, in Minnesota. I'd say as far as fast food burgers they are sorta okayish, but nothing special. I think smash burger is very easily better then them.

Five Guys is more of a coastal thing that gradually moved inland; I think it started in Brooklyn or D.C.  I can't say I've ever seen an In-and-Out around Minnesota, though; just some Five Guys as Cript mentioned.

Five Guys is most certainly on the East Coast, yeah. It's pretty good, the burgers are some of the best ones I've had and their fries are god tier.

Never been to In-and-Out, though. Or seen one, for that matter.
