Think... Not too sci-fi, but still decently into the future, and everything is neon with lots of cybernetics and that sort of deal. It is, coincidentally, my absolute favorite setting ever.

Also with cyberpunk you often need to decide if you want to make it very 70s, in emulation of William Gibson's genre-defining novels (that were written before the 90s), or actually extrapolate from current tech and culture.

I am under the impression there's usually some dystopian themes too.

And then there's Shadowrun, which says "fuck it" and adds magic and fantasy tropes in too because it can.

And then there is RIFTS, which says, "That's not how you say fuck it!" and proceeds to drop literally everything plus the kitchen sink (and kitchen bot) on the pile.

Basically just watch Blade Runner.  :P

I just finished the Wheel of Time series. That was the wildest ride I've read in a long time. During the last few books I couldn't stop muttering "holy shit holy crap holy fuck" over and over. 10/10.

Now to prepare for the post-book depression.
Nah, now you can start your first re-read since you'll have forgotten most of the first few volumes by now.

The best way to describe cyberpunk I find is to just imagine what a cynic from the 80s would see the future like, that's usually what it's like.

After that, you can start your second re-read since you'll have forgotten most of the first few volumes by then.

There are neither beginnings nor endings to rereading the Wheel of Time.

No joke, that was my life in high school and the series was still volumes away from the conclusion then. It's great, you can just toss some random thing in between reads and it's a mostly-fresh experience each time.

Of course most of what you forget consists of page-long descriptions of dresses and almost all of Crossroads of Twilight, the latter of which you forgot intentionally. A monarch imprisoning and raping a member of a diplomatic party for weeks on end is okay and funny as long as it's female-on-male right?

Although you can probably skip Crossroads of Twilight in your rereads. Nothing happens.

The problem with that is that the Mat-Tuon section is actually pretty funny, and after all the shit that he went through the conclusion of that arc is immensely cathartic.

What exactly is Cyberpunk? Is it essentially an environment with very developed systems for stuff like hologram, AI, VR, and tons of virtual stuffs?
In addition to what the others have said, a unifying theme of cyberpunk (especially earlier examples) is that technology changes but people don't.  Expect everyone in a position of any power at all to be an asshole, and human life to be disregarded by pretty much everyone possibly including the main characters.  Its like the reverse of (TV) Star Trek; the future is less comfortable than the present.

Due to the presence of futuristic cybernetics and AI, cyberpunk is also themes of transhumanism.  What does it mean to be human, what could humans (or AIs) become if they continue to alter themselves with technology?  That kind of thing.

Basically just watch Blade Runner.  :P
Only if it's better than the book. The book was pretty terrible.

The book wasn't that bad. I thought it was one of his better ones.

And it is only loosely based on the book. No Mercerism at all.

I found DADOES to be the bad sort of a rambling read, creating far too many plot points and concepts and leaving most of them completely unanswered (or answered in an unsatisfactory manner), before ending in a fashion that made me wonder what exactly the point of the entire mess was.

It had its good points, but I never felt attached to any of the characters and I can't see any way in which my life was bettered, or made more interesting, for reading it.
