Authors are historically plagiaristic as all hell. Have no shame in mimicking the greats, heh, and that is definitely just that. If the readers can't tell the names of people and events have been filed off, then the names haven't been filed off even if they've been filed off >_>

Hey, Christopher Titus built a whole career out of how wildly fucked his family life was back in the day.

And even if that's not satisfactory, it's worth remembering that nobody shares your exact experiences (and what the experience is happens to be just as important, if not more so, than what the event was). By placing them into a story you offer others a window into your world, as it were. It's a wonderful form of commonality.

Yeah, the most genuine writing is going to be stuff that the author is intimately familiar with. Writing about stuff that you experienced or witnessed with the identifying details filed off is standard for everyone from part-time amateurs to many of the greats. Especially in short story writing.
