Pfft. TFW you need to write a ~5k word paper but put it off until 6 hours before the deadline to start finding relevant articles, then nail it anyways.

Oh geez, don't.  I don't want examples of that working please no.

I mean I basically chained myself to my computer with a coffee maker and bowl of chocolate within reach and didn't waste a single second, so I'm not saying it's a good idea. It just works for me.

I eventually got to a point where I did this with every paper, and it didn't even make me nervous.  And I always got good grades on papers.

I also got to this point. But I always panicked.

As someone who supports every reasonable endeavor involving living off the land, I too am interested about that, if you are ok with sharing, of course.


Also, I could offer you a patch of arable land to sell, but it's A) more than a patch, B) located in Europe, C) located somewhere where regular jobs are not that easy to come by and D) not actually my land, but we do intend to sell it, most likely.

On the flip-side, my limited experience with labor unions in the US hasn't been much better; they were more interested in collecting membership dues than actually representing their members in any capacity. This includes the employer that wounded me badly enough that I nearly lost a finger, because they were running the equipment far faster than intended. I guess the union did save the job of the guy who repeatedly drove a Hi-Lo drunk, and nearly skewered several people one time though... so there's always that?

Granted, this might not have been an actual union, but just some company-controlled "union" program, given that membership wasn't even an option with that employer. I wouldn't put it past them.

When you say membership wasn't an option, you mean you were forced to opt in, or that you weren't allowed to opt in?  The only places I've worked have been places with mandatory unions; if you didn't want to join the union or didn't want to pay mandatory dues, you simply weren't employed.  Certainly, closed shops (where an employer can only hire union workers) are illegal in the US, but outside of right-to-work (which has its own problems), union shops (where all employees must join a union after being hired) are...not exactly conducive to a responsive union, either.  Needless to say, my opinion of union shops is not suitable for this thread.  I've heard them compared to medieval guilds more than once, and I cannot entirely disagree.
