After one and a half weeks of writing, I've got 30 round pages of prose for my thesis's rough draft! I seem to have run out of steam to do much more today, after writing five subsections on sound changes this morning, but hopefully it'll pick back up again this evening or tomorrow; my intention is to finish a rough draft of Chapter I (on preliminaries) by the end of the week.

Fixed my resume, applying for jobs, getting ready to start studying for the Math Subject GRE. Going to be working 60-hour workweeks for a while, saving money for little investments and trying to get a patch of arable land somewhere.

Stoked.

If my experience is any guide, you will crush the GRE and see it driven before you.

Flooding problem is fixed for now, and we didn't need to break the foundation to do it! Apparently there's some metal in the pipes that's going to keep causing problems (a future project; going to cobble a webcam into a waterproof scope to check it out), but it's draining! Gonna sleep hard tonight.

Same.  Its been almost a year since I became salaried, and over a year since I wasn't regularly working at least 50 hours a week.  I'm still making more than I would have on my hourly pay with overtime, though.  I made sure to calculate that when I was negotiating the position and be straight about "This doesn't make sense for me unless I make more than this."

I take it then that over in America the unions aren't as powerful?

That or they're less caring.

Most businesses don't have any union involvement and will immediately fire anyone who talks about organization.
