There's a sugar tax coming in the UK, and watching the soft drinks companies flail desperately to stop it is proving amusing.

Is that just sugar sugar, or sweeteners in general? Because if the latter, you might wind up like America, with even shittier corn syrup instead.

Fruit juices and milkshakes are exempt as this is soda sugar tax for some reason in particular

Interestingly Schweppes Indian Tonic water has 5.1 per 100ml, I expect they'll reduce sugar content by 0.2g per 100ml to get tax exemption

This could potentially result in Old Jamaican getting absorbed by Coca Cola or a fruit juice company

Considering its the UK, they'd need a billion dollars to build the sun lamps needed to grow corn there. Britain's annual five days of sun ain't going to cut it. 

Wrong climate for sugar (even beet sugar) as well. I'm guessing sugar all has to be imported.

Also I just found out the whole carrots making you see in the dark thing, though it helps you, is largely a myth that was founded by the Air Ministry in World War One. The British had a wartime oversupply of carrots and not much else due to German attacks on shipping and also wanted to protect the secret of radar which allowed them to intercept German fighters even at night time. To kill two birds with one stone the Air Ministry spread stories that the reason for successful interception was that British pilots ate loads of carrots and so had exceptional night vision to see enemy fighters better, a tale that resulted in everyone eating their carrots!

And most of our sugar is either synthesized or else just imported from South America, India or Malaysia/Indonesia

SMT4 Final is a sequel/sidestory (I'm not quite clear on which) to SMT 4.  Apparently the development keyword is "deicide," and the game protagonist is quickly recruited into a god-killing scheme after dying as the price of his resurrection by Dagda, who bears a grudge against YHWH.  It surprised me to learn about it, because I didn't even know it was being developed, much less that it was released.

Nah, what's got me all excited is that the city I live in, Melbourne, is hosting Australia's first ever Ginger Pride rally, with the RANGA (Redhead and Nearly-Ginger Association) and Buderim Ginger sponsoring the rally. They'll be handing out free alcoholic ginger beer, too. All proceeds go towards anti-bullying foundation "Bully Zero Charity".
