One of the few useful things my mother ever taught me is that you aren't just talking to a person now, you're talking to the person who that person becomes later, who may remember your conversation and get something out of it. It's not about who wins the argument. Just say what you're going to say.

This is a really important point that I've been throwing into conversations as often as I can for the last couple years.  There's a lot of cynical crap out there about how it's useless to talk to people about disagreements, because nobody ever changes their minds.  I'm always following up with "Wrong.  It's just rare for people to change their worldviews quickly, so you rarely get to see the effect you have on people."  Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Nah, middle school/junior high wasn't that bad. Not that much happened. Read books. Played games. Occasionally chilled with handful of friends. Refused to acknowledge those who I deemed unacceptable due to excessively rampant assholishness. That's still basically what's going on, albeit somewhat more dynamicly.

As I am still going through school but am done with that bit, middle school was pretty shit until the last year of it. That year I had a super nice homeroom teacher, and liked all of the others.
As for high school it's so far very meehhhhhghghghhh. Find the right crowd to settle in with and don't let douchebags get under your skin is the best advice one could give.

I've gotten better at playing the guitar, okay? And some songs got a lot less impressive as I got more knowledgable. Cathedral is cool, but... not as impressive as it sounds. (Okay, the volume swelling and hammering is pretty hard, but the actual notes aren't that hard, I'd go so far as to say it's harder in Guitar Hero).

This has gotten more and more impressive the more I've learned. Holy crap.

I wrote an amazing essay today as part of my abitur. There was a number of subjects to choose to write an essay on, and I chose memes. Keeping in mind that pretty much every piece of human knowledge and culture can be considered a meme, I had very few problems in writing one of my best texts so far. I couldn't possibly do much better right now, so I really hope it'll knock the committee's socks off.
