Half Life was revolutionary when it came out iirc, not to mention that a lot of very popular games were or are based on Source and GoldSrc.

Half Life 3 would probably announce Source 2 becoming available for people to make sourcemods on  (I don't think you can right now? I might be wrong).
I think it's more that both HL and HL2 were big tech demos turned into games, and people want to see what the next thing will be. Possibly the Vive but who knows.

HL1 wasn't that much of a tech demo.  It was based off the Quake 2 engine after all.

It did use a lot of set pieces and had interaction with NPCs, but arguably some lesser known earlier titles had some of that too.  I first played HL1 in its entirety a couple of years ago, so that's probably why it just never felt like a masterpiece.

The most I've seen is some rumor over a possible half life 2 episode 4 thing

not rumors, screenshots from a very real canceled project

HL1 wasn't a tech demo, yeah. It just accidentally pioneered the Setpiece FPS - the original idea was VERY different, but at some point someone made a test level that put all the gimmicks from every single level on a single level and it turned out to be far better than the rest of the game, so they went with that.

Just cause 3 is fun to watch.

Highlight of the day was gunner-chan walking up to a guy working at a gas station and she was like.

"Hey. Wanna see some... MAHOU?!"

Then she started ramming Rico shoulder first into the gas pumps till the exploded just to shout "MAHOU" as the explosion killed everything (Including Rico)

Hi, Wolfeyez-who-I've-heard-about-but-never-met!

re: Half-Life:

I should really play that game one of these days. I haven't played a post-Doom shooter in, like, years.
