Honestly. Good grits are delicious, and well-made biscuits & gravy are the same. Just because they look like sick doesn't mean they're supposed to taste that way.

I agree about biscuits and gravy but I still maintain grits are bad even when good.

I'm not the biggest bread fan, but when you find a place that knows how to do a good biscuit, it's like eating a soft cloud of butter. With more butter. Or honey. Or white gravy.
Likewise, most people who have "tried" grits got a packet of Quaker Instant rather than the real deal. Real stone-ground grits are more like cream of wheat crossed with the taste of cornbread.

You've got Biscuitville down in your corner of NC, right? I lived in the Virginia Piedmont as a kid, and I had a phase where it was my favorite place to eat.

...now I want biscuits. No Popeye's in Russia (say what you will about evil chains, they know how to do a biscuit), but they do have KFC, which is...passable, in a pinch, I suppose.

In other happy news: I have melatonin and an anti-SAD light, and I feel like a new man. I've been waking up at 6:30 instead of a quarter to ten, my memory for new vocab is way better, I'm infinitely more productive, and I no longer feel like I'm going to go insane from all my Russian friends being too busy to hang out.

It's raining here and we're two months into summer. It's been super dry, so it's good, but at the same time, it's bad in general.


I seem to have freed up a good 37 gigs on my hard drive. Not sure how, but neat.

We had snow in the valley briefly, ice in the mountains several times, and it's been buttfucking cold as hell consistently since Halloween. But not major snowfall. That doesn't usually stick around until December, even though it might first snow on Halloween.
