Finally managed to get Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones running in an emulator. I'll have to update my video driver to get it to work, because most of the text looks like mangled nonsense to me, but hey, I can play it now!
What sort of toaster are you running this on? :P

Seriously, even my oldest, cheapest, half-gig-of-RAM craptop could emulate GBA games with barely any slowdown. Congrats though!
It's half my computer being a preassembled nine-year-old office-work hand-me-down and half its awful video driver, really.

The video driver is basically the entire reason the thing sucks, but because of the driver it sucks hard. The thing lags so badly playing Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (yes, a game where the super-intense graphics consist of people talking and pointing) that I have to turn up the frameskipping so high you can't actually see people blink for the music to sound even remotely decent, and it somehow crashed multiple times while playing Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher.

The weird thing is that Fire Emblem actually runs at anywhere from 90% to 200% speed, so I have no clue what the hell is going on there. I managed to play it anyway by having a text dump from GameFAQs open while I play the game, although the music still sounds like it got hit with a sledgehammer.

I'm impressed how badly it runs. My old computer from 2003 was more than capable of GBA emulation at ~400% speed if i so wanted, with a single core Pentium 4 2.53ghz + 256MB RAM.

What I just saw was, quite frankly, one of the most exciting knockouts I've seen in a long time.

I am going to have uploaded five youtube videos by the end of today.

This last one has... commentary.

Oh boy oh boy.

EDIT: I didn't forget to cut the last part of the video, youtube's just still processing lol

The Walking Dead Season 2 - the game, not the show - is free for PS+ members on the PS4. I played through the first but it was mostly spoiled, but this one I'm doing blind. So that's fun.

you're the first person to remind me that subtitles are a thing on youtube

also: it's a northwestern united states accent, which is basically the same as the newscaster american except for the way we say all the local place names right (yakima, spokane etc.)

EDIT: captions up

also, i now have a two-day backlog of videos for youtube, which is sorta cool

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Explains it. Being a (straight) female physics student presents similar romantic/sexual opportunities to being a (straight) male theater student. In both cases, as the cliché goes, "the odds are good but the goods are odd".

Not to say those are the most gender-imbalanced fields of study, just the most gender-imbalanced fields of study that you can get without becoming toxic to one or the other. Can't imagine the women of computer science date a lot within their field, and same for the men of gender studies.

That's a poor comparison. Computer science is actually useful.

Yeah, but I'm only talking about the gender imbalances, which I'd reckon are fairly similar (in opposite directions, of course).
