Pretty much. The entire point of hipsters seems to be that they went against the mainstream because it was mainstream, which is retarded. So they went full retard in the opposite direction simply beacuse it was opposite, not because it was better or something.
And it's the second beef I have with the whole thing, doing something because it's something hipsters do, or any other movement really. You do something because you want to do it, not because you're supposed to do it if you identify with a certain group of people.

Friend of mine is having a game day for his birthday this weekend with a bunch of assorted game-geek friends of his, most somewhat younger than us.

When he and I and a few other friends were in college, we played a lot of Illuminati: NWO, the CCG from Steve Jackson Games. Over time, we built up a combined deck of a few thousand cards. Guess what I just recently found in a box in the closet? 

Going to be fun to introduce a new generation of folks to the insanity that is Illuminati. The only game where a vampire Elvis and his followers join forces with Russia to stop the Gnomes of Zurich from destroying Brazil with a hurricane powered by their Orbital Weather Satellites, because the Spear of Longinius is there, and the Adepts of Hermes need the Spear to further their plans, but then somebody assassinates Fidel Castro (who was REALLY controlling Russia) with a flesh-eating plague, so then that player loses control of Russia and they drop out of the defense, but then the Gnomes reveal that the car bomb was a hoax, and plays a clone of Castro, so now they control Castro *and* Russia and maybe the attack on Brazil was just a feint to get at Castro the whole time...

And that's HALF of one player's turn.

@miauw: I'm sure you can still pick up sets of it on the Intertubes. They even published it in other languages. And I just realized I mixed up the assassination methods (flesh-eating plague and car bomb), and you didn't even notice because there is [bthat much[/b] WTF involved. 

Now just imagine playing this back in the 1990's, when all this shit was hype. It was like an X-Files Episode Generator, only better. I used to gauge USENET posts by "Does this sound like a good round of Illuminati?" Because soooo much black helicopters/FEMA/Ruby Ridge/Soviet troops in the Detroit salt mines/etc.
