Chef Boyardee, friendo. Knockoff brand stuff, anyway. Very cheap, in every sense of the word. You may google its terrible majesty at your leisure.

Like, seriously, where I'm at a can of the stuff sells for about the same as freaking rice, iirc. Both about 7 cent to the ounce.

I call it a culinary abomination, but it's both cheap, filling, and tastes of nostalgia -- I can actually use it in a dish that ends up tasting like public school cafeteria lasagna! That's not really a good thing, but it's a thing.

America has spray-on cheese. There's bad, then there's OH GOD WHAT!?

I don't know anybody who actually buys that stuff. I've only ever seen it used as a gag in sitcoms.

I've had family buy it. It's useful for a few things, like cheesing up crackers. Though that and just eating it is about the only thing I ever see it used for. Being fair to it, it's little worse than the normal american sliced cheese stuff.

And fistbump to owlga. I'd make no qualms about canned pasta being an acquired taste, but I've definitely acquired it. Actually like the stuff well enough. It's not terrible. One horrible thing I'll do is cook up some ramen, flavor it (or not, depending on mood), drain out the broth, and then stick the noodles in with a can's worth of pasta. Extra noodles! Add in a little cheese, maybe ghetto croûtons (chopped up toast) and some bacon bits (or just bacon, if it's on hand). It's thoroughly mediocre in the best of ways.

Canned pasta is good stuff, especially once you find the brands that have a thick sauce.

There's tinned spaghetti and suchlike here... I think there are also tinned pasta dishes with meat etc. that you can buy and heat up, but I've never tried them. They look nasty. My brother had a pile of them in his flat for a rainy day. Normal tinned spaghetti is fine, though.

So I was reading Prequel again. The first time I read it, I decided I hated it when it got to Kvatch. It just felt like Katia (The main character) was just being tortured by random shit.
Then a few years passed. And I decided on a whim to read it once more. I had also recently watched a podcast that had a good explanation of privilege.
Now I have entirely different opinion of the webcomic. Katia is at the bottom of the world for no real reason other then she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If life had given her a chance, she would have had a life she could enjoy.

Katia isn't being tortured because the author is cruel. Nor are the readers, really. its just that the world she lives in is very much like our own: it's devoted to serving one very specific person and sadistically neglects anyone who doesn't fit the mold.

It took me years, but gentleman, ladies, and those who refuse either of those titles...
I have found The Point.

Fniff, I had the same feeling you used to, but on reflection I could sorta see it as a story about privilege. That's actually a pretty neat take on that webcomic.
