If you need help with resource and fuel/time management, I have a spreadsheet I made to use while playing it. Helps you know how much RU you collected via mining (including credits/BIO for the Melnorme), and if you're a penny-pincher, even how much RU you collected via melee-salvage (basically accumulator cells, I even have an accumulator to calculate how much crew you lost (lost 300 crew total before I finished the game)), as well as how much total RU you are worth (parts, fuel, crew, escorts), how much fuel and time it costs (at full speed) to navigate between stars (mainly homeworlds and rainbow worlds), and it even factors in Quasi-space. That helped me clear the game rather efficiently, while also providing me some fun trivial info of my progress (great for an LP).

In case I share it, I formatted it a bit more to keep it stylish and optimize the calculations a tad. It may have some spoilers, in case you haven't played the game before (total credits needed, some modules, quasi-space coordinates A-to-B, and a note as to where they truly lead (territories/constellations, really), and maybe the races you encounter with the names of their home constellations). It even has a time calculator to see how much time passed in-game (beat my time of 2y 2m 28d to defeat the Ur-Quan threat). Feel free to use it if you want. I'll upload it.

Honestly the best thing to remember about Star control 2 resource management is... Don't pick up useless shit.

That's it, just go on your merry way and don't pick up anything below dark blue. And shoot things so you can trade to the Melnorme. And after they upgrade your landers enough you can just clear out three or four gemstone based worlds and be set for the rest of the game.
