Tea. I have tea. After a restless night filled with the usual "oh god life is friggin' scary" thoughts, it's nice to have tea, with it's wonderful, life-giving caffeine.  :D

Say, didn't we used to have a tea thread?
I'm a very simple person, aren't I?
Yay for tea! :D
I like Iced, meself.

BTW: Am I the only one who gets irked when after I state that I love tea's caffeine rush, someone drops in and corrects "tea has theine, not caffeine"?

It's particularily annoying when its done by people I respect and really should know better.

indeed. That's why it irks me.

I can't even afford to correct them without looking even more of a tea nerd than I look now.

(I already stunned several coworkers (and people from other hospitals, for that matter) when I asked if they had red tea (pu erh) at a restaurant, and when they told me that they did, I asked for a cup. When they brought the cup, before even tasting it, I told the waitress that what she brought me certainly *wasn't* red tea (not rudely, btw). Cue stunned silence in the table, and then the waitress stammering that they had run out, so they brought me a cup of black tea instead because they thought I wouldn't notice.

Now, pu erh and black tea taste and smell really different, so this shouldn't be particularily astonishing. But somehow after that night I was branded as "tea ultra-nerd" in the minds of many.

Had an orientation talk for some therapy. I still feel pretty bad right now, but things will get better.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Ahh, that sweet feeling of graduation... finally fucking being over. I was near the front 'cause the director of the Honors program likes to shove us in right after the grad students, and we had a substantial graduating class, so it ended up running for about 2-2.5 hours just with the actual walking alone, never mind the speechifying and pontification.

We don't quite have a thread for things which make you feel flabbergasted, so I don't know where to talk about students stopping on stage for selfies with the president of the university.

Surely the wtf thread would catch that nonsense.

I am happy because; got 100% on my most recent geology exam. Mind, I did lose a couple points, because i forgot which type of faulting created the grand tetons range, but the extra credit saved me with obscure paleontology. 90% overall in the class.

Okay, so between all my classes, I wrote about 103 pages of essay this semester. Bluh!

EDIT: A fairer estimate might be closer to 85 or so, since the big one was double spaced and I rounded up slightly more often than down.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It's not a WTF, though. There's no confusion or shock involved, it's just a dull acceptance of... people honestly being that obnoxious.

On the other hand, RFID's design creates a risk of sniffing from more savvy opponents, since the necessity of its low-power design makes it hard to implement robust security (especially on top of all the data that already has to be stored). Passports are now distributed in metal cases, but these are evidently not of sufficient thickness to block signals adequately. Paragraphs have a minimum of three sentences.

Behold! This is the field upon which I grow mine fucks. Lay thine eyes upon it: verily, thou shalt see that it is barren.
