I just want to clarify that no, I'm not in Nepal, but I am relatively close to the border, in siliguri, so what I got of the quake was scary as fuck, but not dangerous.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Can confirm. Earthquakes are friggin' terrifying.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Not got time to watch it myself, but you know the animated short, The Reward? It has a 22-minute long prequel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUlg8Y_mLfA
I've seen it. It's good, but I'm not entirely happy about the move from "Average Joes become awesome through a quest for glory" to "God-like super warriors quest for more glory than they already have". Great ending though.

Eh, it's a different story. It'd be a bit boring if they re-hashed the same story again. I like the difference. And it was a bit of an over-done story, but it had some nice twists, and I liked how it wasn't pure "This dude is good/evil!" Like, they introduced him as taking money from the townsfolk before going off to slay the monster, but while I thought it was gonna turn out to him be in cahoots with the monster, turns out he's just a business-adventurer. He still saves people, but wants compensation. Very much so wants it.

And some other stuff that would get into spoilery-area, more-so than that at least. Still, I liked it.

Yeah, fair enough about the same story getting boring. The sudden 180 was a little jarring, is all.

Still a good animation, and would love to see more.

Hrm. Sorry, re-reading that, usually I'm a little more coherent than that. Haven't had much reason to be in this thread lately. That's probably affecting my mental bullshit.

I'm glad you understood what I meant, though, despite my incoherent ramblings.

Semester-long project of an essay shat out in the course of a single evening. *Cracks knuckles* Still got it.

Mind you, not that it's any good. But it reads like it is if you're not paying close enough attention, which is just about the same thing, really.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
