sorry I got you mixed up with the KOSS in fanfiction land where his title is King of the Starry Skies and he rules from the seat of power in the Macedonic region. He's one of the Great Kings, all of whom were "blessed by God" and given powerful control over magic, although recent philosophers from the land of the mosselems have been questioning the idea of divine magic, and in fact ascribe such power to random chance and favourable genetics (a field only recently being plied by men like Naseem Rais and Borut Amjad). Though his domain is small compared to the size of the known world, even the Quetzol across the sea fear his influence, and it will likely be centuries before he is deposed.

I didn't really think about anyone else but I thought alot about the world and how magic works (one axis: manipulation of life, with a "miscellaneous" category concerning everything else known as the arcane).

so, uh, I tried to write a short thing to cop the airbender opening, but I ended up writing this instead.

My teacher used to tell me stories about the old days; it might not have been peaceful, but the tribes kept each other in check. There were many wars and deaths, but it was all understandable, everything made sense in it's own way.

But all that changed when the Berbers attacked.

The tribes were eliminated one after another, helpless before the horde of powerful arcanists. Many great warriors were slain, and it seemed that the whole world would fall before the mossolems, if it weren't for the First King. A Roman man blessed with incredible control of life and death, he swept over the infidels like a tidal wave, followed by demons and angels beyond description. When he was finished, he led the charge that pushed the mossolems back to Iberia, and claimed all of Europe as his own. Soon, all the land from the ancestral home of the Gauls to the land of the Greeks belonged to him, and he ruled a benevolent monarch until his death two hundred years later.

Many kings have followed, all ruling in the name of the First, but it has been centuries since those times of iniquity. It is a new age: explorers have discovered strange new beings from faraway shores, hostile and bestial, yet incredibly powerful. The Kingdom has many enemies and allies (some of which share the same name), and revolutionary new ideas sweep the countryside, promising a change in intellectualism the likes of which have never been seen. Even the northmen - stubborn as they may be - are seen more often in the Kingdom, trading stories and crafts with merchants from all over Europe, and bringing tidings of ill will from the lands far to the east.

It is the year of our lord twenty thousand and thirty six, and it is a new age.
