Animal years seems a bizarre thing to invent to me. As human life spans change should we introduce "human years" to follow the trend?

FearfulJesuit's signature still manages to amuse me whenever I read it.

Speaking of which, FJ, what does your personal text say when translated into English?

"For the greatest glory of God" is my guess.

His too?  I know that's what mine reads as (although it's greater, not greatest, at least how I've heard it), I was asking about his.

It's the first line of the Kalevala. It more or less means "I am driven by my memory."

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Welp, I'm a moron and read yours.

His seems to be a line from the Kalevala, a Finnish book of folk poems.
Seems to tranlate to "I am driven by my longing."

Well, I got ninja'd by FJ anyway. Ignore me.

American Psycho is... well, it's certainly a film. I guess I'll post about it here because I have better context for a lot of reaction images now?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I bought Interstellar today :D

Even better on the second watching...although I had to explain most of the concepts to the folks :P
Still, they at least considered it "better than we expected".

I'm still leery of watching it because I'm allergic to cringe.

And the thought of the corrected history makes me cringe so much.

Not sure what you mean by "corrected history". Mind PMing?

The history books in the movie say the moon landing was faked, as said early in the movie.

Yeah, Japa PM'd me about that. Pretty sure the history books were lying in-universe though, since the government was trying to discourage interest in space exploration in favor of trying to keep folks on Earth fed. Whether that was a good idea or not is up for debate, but I don't think the movie was trying to imply that the Apollo missions were indeed faked.

Oh, I know the government was lying. I'm just gringing too much at that.

I thought it made sense from an in-story perspective, since it's one of the ways to let the audience know just how f'ed-up the world is.

"One of the greatest scientific advancements of the 20th century? Never happened. Here, go grow corn in order to stave off extinction and mass riots for as long as possible."

But, y'know, that's just my opinion.
