SOOOOOOOOOOOO, i got to try the Oculus Rift today. Disregarding the fact that it was regulated for normal human skull size and thus was too tight for me (which meant having two lenses pressed up against my orbital bones), it was a pretty cool experience. I could definitely feel that thing that people say about it messing with your balance, since we wore them while standing up. :v (much to my dismay though, nobody did more than wobble a bit at their knees while swaying gently)
Would probably have been a lot cooler if it was a sufficiently powerful PC doing the magic, since this was naught but a Macbook running a rollercoaster thing. This meant both latency and frame rate issues. :<

Why would they showcase an Oculus Rift and not go the trouble of using a good PC for top performance. That's like the caveman making the wheel, then only showing half of a wheel to all his caveman friends. "Oooh, look how it rolls for a bit and stops. See, it could work so much better, but this what I have to show." *

Probably portability issues. I can confirm that gaming rigs are very heavy and impractical to transport around, and the few computers that we actually have on campus that aren't private laptops aren't really that powerful and/or are very firmly locked in place. :v
