In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I know exactly where I learned the meaning of weeaboo in the context of anime fan - The Book of 9 Swords, a D&D sourcebook, was often referred to as the Book of Weeaboo Fightan' Magics by people who thought that was a bad thing, and by people making fun of those people.

... Reminds me why I stopped hanging around my last forum of choice, come to think of it (with apologies to the cross section that hang out here as well, who, to my knowledge, did nothing to contribute to the atmosphere that isn't Happy thread material, and ought to be proud for being awesome).

I first learned it from a hilariously creepy guy off YouTube that a friend showed me
It's a rather fun word to say

Especially if you say the entire "Weeaboo Fightan' Magics" phrase. It just sort of rolls off the tongue.

The only thing I like about the "word" weeaboo is whoever says it sounds like they are talking like a baby, and I get to laugh to myself that grown men are saying something that sounds so dumb.

I think a lot of people who aren't weaboos get offended by the phrase weaboo, even though it doesn't apply to them. Honestly, it applies to a really small subset of the otaku culture: the kind that collect japanese swords and have Miku Hatsune body pillows, and generally love japan/hate their country even though they've never been to japan.

Wait, normal people don't have swords and bodypillows?

...I think I need to make some changes in my life.

So I watched Disney's Anastasia today. And the year it ends is 1927, I figure. Which means at the end back at home Lenin rests and certain moustacheous Georgian man takes power. NKVD gonna have some fun, given the heir to throne is alive. This movie generally lacks NKVD.

That ain't Disney's, friend. Unless they made one and never told me. Fox is responsible for the one I'm thinking of.[/pedantry]

Good movie?

Yeeeeeah, I should probably notice it by GIANT 20TH CENTURY FOX LOGO before the movie, but for some reason, I skipped it. Things are a bit clearer now for me.

If you can disregard all the history they screwed up, this is actually a nice movie. Characters are nice, songs are good enough, Rasputin is hilarious.
