So now you can set up child labour factories to take over the universe and kill god.

Nietzsche beat you to it.

Does anyone know the minimum temp it needs to be?

I apologise for the ancient joke.

20 C should get it going, though it might take more than four hours.

Yeah, probably. FYI the synthesis (if I'm not crazy and it's stannic chloride you're trying to make) is traditionally done with Cl2 (chlorine gas.) That probably isn't practical for you, however, and I strongly recommend you not do that. To be clear, you're trying to use aqueous HCl to chlorinate metallic tin?

I'm making stannous chloride with the stuff in the links I provided

Would I need to keep it at that temperature constantly for 4+hours?

FACT MODE ACTIVATE
An ion is a charged particle, which occurs when an atom/molecule (more commonly a molecule) has more (negative/anion) or fewer (positive/cation) electrons than protons.
An isotope is a variant on an element, differentiated by the number of neutrons in the nucleus. This makes no difference on charge but does affect mass and nuclear processes.

I don't believe tin (ii) is either, I think roman numerals mean oxidation state (though my memory is fuzzy on that).
Cations are negative, I believe. The numerals refer to metals with multiple oxidation states. They are usually capitalized.
My HS chem teacher gave us the mnemonic that "Cations are paws-itive!"

FAKEDIT: google confirms that cations are +

Oh, never mind all that then. Yeah it's a pretty slow reaction by all accounts but that should be enough for a small amount, especially if the metal is in thin strips or small balls. If it isn't completed to your satisfaction by then, check on it every 20 minutes or so. Removing some of the finished product may also help move things along depending on the nature of the reaction.

Yep. That's the point.

Removal of product ain't helping that case. Making metallic dust from your tin pieces helps a lot.

Err, what?

@Cryxis: Throwing an oxidiser in there might help, like bleach or something. Don't do this before consulting your teacher/guardian! Otherwise heating and increasing the surface area (ie using finer tin particles) are the usual ways. Stronger acid would be good too, but I guess you won't have that on hand.
