In other news, I just dodged getting embroiled in an argument by deleting my response before posting it. Not this one, believe it or not - different forum entirely, actually. But the point is, maturity +1?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Factory farms are a disease that, even if you eat and enjoy meat, you really shouldn't want to exist. They are terrible for the environment and the animal involved.
All the environmental problems come from there being too many people in the world. To benefit our planet, we should kill all the excess people.

Studies show that those who lead a vegitarian lifestyle have a 10 pt average higher IQ than those who lead a meat-eating lifestyle, who in turn have a 10 pt average higher IQ than those who lead a vegan lifestyle.

One study, and the difference isn't as big as you say.

I wonder if he was really referencing a single study from 1970s, good find picking that one out though.

No we're not having one of these in here. This isn't the topic for it.

That was the only study that ever made claims similar to the one mentioned, so it's almost surely the one referenced.

no actually, the problem is methane and shit. Lots of shit. Pig shit, for example, is crazy toxic. And the farmers store it in these lakes, and then to clean it out they just sort of spray it over the surrounding area, including in the direction of homes of people that live nearby.

Also, the amount of calories you can get directly growing plants in the ground, versus growing grass and having cows feed on it and then eating those cows, well, plants are more efficient and require less land for an equal amount of calories.

Yeah. There's probably a thread that is adequate for this discussion, but... this is the happy thread. Is for happy! Happy~! HAPPY!  :D
