Heheheheh, Veganism..... it's like Vegetarianism, but even harder a lifestyle to maintain. I've never quite understood why one would willingly live without animal derived products/foods.
Vegetarians are all hypocrites or are just not doing their research anyway, the dairy and egg industry is just as bad as the meat industry, and the two are intrinsically interlinked. It's really just arbitrarily deciding what cruelty you don't want to participate in.
I just don't go for the taste of meat. Morality doesn't really cone into it for me. We get most of our eggs free range anyway, but the milk... Eh. The rest of my family eats fish anyway, so *shrug*

If I ever went vegitarien I would take the diet where fish is an ok meat for consumption just to make sure I'm not missing any important nutrients, that and fish is extremely healthy

that is... not vegetarian. that is pescetarian.

If you eat an animal of any sort, any of the veg prefixed diets are not what you are following.

I remember my sister had a friend who said she was vegetarian but ate chicken. You are still an omnivore if you eat chicken, you are just eating meat selectively, probably because you like it more (red meat vs chicken, neither is that great for you, chicken isn't an improvement health wise.)

It is very hard to not get all the vitamins you need being vegan these days. If it was something I was worried about, I would just consume more soy milk because they fortify that stuff with a ridiculous amount of vitamins. But it's extremely easy. Having people say "clearly you don't get enough protein/b12/omega 3/whatever else" can be frustrating when I'd be dead by now if I was missing anything.

well, if it did, I would suggest some research into free range. Usually it means packed to the gills in a barn with a window or two up top, with all the other awful things that come with the egg industry. Not to preach, but all those labels of humanely sourced and free range are to make the consumer feel better. When I am buying meat or eggs and such for my parents, I actually avoid those products because the labels are dishonest and misleading.

Am I vegan?
Hmmm, Free range eggs... Soy products, soy milk, and cheese is being phased out though there is vegan cheese apparently, no idea how that works but apparently it does.

daiya. I have forgotten the time before it existed.

I amended my past post to add some details on "free range" but eggs are still an animal byproduct even if you get them from your own chickens.

It's like the argument about honey. Nothing will make it vegan.

Studies show that those who lead a vegitarian lifestyle have a 10 pt average higher IQ than those who lead a meat-eating lifestyle, who in turn have a 10 pt average higher IQ than those who lead a vegan lifestyle.

Mostly because vegans are too dumb to realized that they need to eat more beans because they're not consuming eggs or meat. And few vegans actually know how to cook vegan foods properly, so it's mostly homogenous stuff that doesn't have any nutrients, because nobody taught them nutrition as children; mostly they learned "Greens is healthier than the meats, eats yous greens or yous doesn't gets dessert". What I'm saying is that it's not the lifestyle that leads to being dumb, but being uneducated and dumb statistically leads to veganism more often than the other two options.

Vegan = no animal products whatsoever
Vegetarian = will still eat animal products that can be obtained without harming the animal (eggs, milk, honey)

TBH they're more moral choices than health ones. Meat is good for you, when you eat the right kinds in the right amounts (which is true of pretty much everything except junk food). From many standpoints, poultry is the superior choice to pretty much anything.

I'd be dead by now if I was missing anything.

Uh, it doesn't necessarily work like that. Your body can mostly function while seriously deficient in certain nutrients. I'm not saying that you can't get a nutritionally complete diet on vegan rules. You totally can, and it's not super difficult.

I don't eat fruits or vegetables at all (except for a little squeezy pouch of applesauce almost every day, and that's only started recently,) and I'm still alive. I haven't done fruits or veggies for over 25 years. *shrug* Rice, kidney beans and black beans, potatoes and a little bit of spinach every now and again is pretty much it on that front.

Since at least a few posts have been made in regards to the meat industry, I feel like saying this, just because I doubt the WTF thread wants this here;

You know, I have to wonder; why do people get pissy about hunting? I mean, yes, you're depriving an animal of it's life for sustenance, but at least it's relatively quick compared to the meat industry; hunting is just *BANG*, dead, if you're competent; the meat industry is drawn out, heartless processing, with the animals being kept in shitty conditions and generally executed in a horrific manner.

Oh, and as my happy today, I have discovered the joy of Brownie Brittle! It's a cookie and a brownie, all in one, delicious! :D

I would love to see any of your sources on "vegans r dum." Or any proof that being uneducated and dumb leads to veganism. Wait, why did I just respond to this post, it's one of the more asinine ones I've read today.

I don't actually have a huge problem with hunting to an extent. If the hunter is not a gun toting lunatic looking for a trophy kill, it's an environmentally preferable way to obtain meat.

Factory farms are a disease that, even if you eat and enjoy meat, you really shouldn't want to exist. They are terrible for the environment and the animal involved.

Eh. Animals are delicious, and vegan food is disgusting (unless it's food that happens to be vegan - like a salad or something). Seems pretty clear-cut to me.

...

the meat industry is drawn out, heartless processing, with the animals being kept in shitty conditions and generally executed in a horrific manner
Most first-world countries are passing laws against factory farming and the like. The execution is also very quick - after all, stressing the animal leads to tougher meat.
I'm not saying that the conditions are less-than-ideal, but you probably shouldn't be quite so quick to believe all the shit PETA spews across the paddocks.

First off, don't assume I have anything to do with those pet murdering sociopaths a PETA. Second off, I pay close attention to the litigation in action and I assure you, it's at a crawl at best. I think I pay enough attention to the issues that you can stop assuming I'm just being fed propaganda, it's demeaning.
