Edit: I just wrote Christmas gift card-things (gift tags is maybe a more accurate term?) for people whose presents I haven't even bought yet.

I managed to nimbly talk my way out of attending that Christmas party (which apparently was also a costume party, and thus would have been even more awkward with me not having a costume) so I'm gonna ride this wave of relief-fuelled productivity to get some shit done before I inevitably sink back into self-loathing. Yay!

I was going to go pick up some durian ice cream today. We've hired several new employees since the last time I brought some in and some other coworkers expressed an interest in retrying it. I didn't buy any, though.

Walked through the door and immediately saw something that will be so much better.

TL;DR: Bringing my new machete to work tomorrow and force-feeding my coworkers fresh durian.

This town is a bit far from potato production. The local agribusiness around here is ranching. But it's a bit of an odd place.

A person may not be seen in public without a smile on their face.

Amazing my grandmother got away with being so grumpy, then. Can't recall her smiling at all.
I think Boise also has a law prohibiting fishing from the neck of a giraffe. I have no idea what prompted that...

Also, Idaho is famous for a particularly delicious breed of potatoes, not mass producing bajillions of them. If memory serves, the largest producer of Idaho potatoes is Oregon. Not that potato farms don't exist across the state, but you'll see more mint, corn and grains, and cattle ranches. There's enough variability in the area to permit you to do almost anything somewhere in the state. Except on forest service or BLM land, which was ~25% of the total area last I checked. Can't piss on their bushes without being fined.

Also, I wanted to try durian, if only out of fruit-boredom.

It's brown goop with a similar consistency to butter, if memory serves, and yes incredibly salty, but only to a troubling degree if you're a baka gaijin scrublord visitor to Oz who spreads it like peanut butter. It's pretty good, and you don't need much to taste it. It's also apparently an excellent anti-American weapon which preys upon our natural instinct to, upon spying food, eat as much of it as possible.

Indeed it is, upon tasting way too much of it.
It is nice when scaled down a bit with some toast and butter however, I just remember having bread with only Vegemite as a kid, so I operated on that memory when I should have been going easy on the amount I was spreading.
