I bought Dark Souls 1 while it was on sale on steam, even got a usb xbox controller to play it with, but I'm still not sure if I made a correct decision here. Maybe I should still hold out til DS 2 is on sale...

Alright, after wrestling with Windows gaming live or whatever that shit was I'm officially playing Dark Souls... and I have to say I'm failing pretty bad at it. Just trying to wrap my head around the controls is the hardest part so far.

I've currently finished grinding against the beginning enemies until I could finally afford the healing spell. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to tackle the Minotaur tomorrow when I'm not tired and groggy.

If you by any chance are playing Dark Souls with mouse + keyboard, I'd strongly recommend modding it. Search for dsfix and dsmfix. Also, given GfWL is about to die any moment now, there is hope another fix/patch for full Steam integration will one day become a reality.

If you by any chance are playing Dark Souls with mouse + keyboard, I'd strongly recommend modding it. Search for dsfix and dsmfix. Also, given GfWL is about to die any moment now, there is hope another fix/patch for full Steam integration will one day become a reality.

DSM fix is realistically mandatory - without it, the target switching with the mouse is unbearable and makes the game nearly unplayable. Whatever hero made it deserves a portion of the game's sales because the controls are complete disaster without it.

As for GFWL, they were supposed to completely port over to steamworks in november but obviously that didn't happen. They've already got the steam achivements in (but you can't get them yet), so... hopefully any time now.

(of course that means I'm probably going to have to play the whole game over again to actually get the achivements, not sure if happy or sad about that)

I'm actually playing with a brand new USB xbox controller. It's working very nice, though targeting still leaves me with a few headaches. I'll want to lock-on to a guy that is both onscreen and right in front of me, and on atleast three occasions now already I've inadvertently locked onto a guy that was offscreen and wind up accidentally strafing off a ledge and into a bottomless chasm.
