After weeks of playing at my own pace, I finally beat Starcon 2 again, years since I last beat it. Last playthrough I had life get in the way too much, and it fell into the backlog black hole. It's so nice getting that weight off my mind. I hate having an incomplete story. It's like arriving home during Bohemian Rhapshody, just before the end of it. You just gotta play all the way through in a single go to truly enjoy it.
Gonna take a break from the series for a bit before I get cracking on the fan-sequel
Project 6014 (
Intro) (Post-SC2-UQM spoilers within). My notes and spreadsheet should still be rather compatible. I just need to tweak a few things to keep it relevant to the sequel. No more custom ship, unfortunately, but the rest of the calculator crap should still work as intended; just need to update the coordinate sheets, now that Quasi-space is no longer an option, as far as I know.
EDIT:
The final hour's battles (which also took place between 3AM-4AM), I kept recalling my skills in ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS (Especially where piloting the Thraddash Torches were concerned. They played rather familiarly, and holy crap, did the Ur-Quan underestimate those fools under my control), and boy did those skills come in handy (seeing as this was the only other time I actually used my escort fleet the entire game; the flagship wiped out most-other ships in battles, unless it was too risky otherwise)). I minimized my final battle casualties to a total of 5 ships (out of a total of 13+2 (replaced by reinforcements), 13th ship is flagship) lost (2 Thraddash Torches (first battle), 2 Pkunk Furies, and 1 Utwig Jugger (final battle); almost lost a Chmmr Avatar, but managed to clear the way, and give myself a mock finale (going like a final episode of an awesome show, with even the assholes of the team (Thraddash, mostly; Even Fwiffo, the team coward, went out like a badass, instructing my fleet the best course of evacuation with full confidence and no fear, doing what his people do best (Run away and find safety))) giving their best wishes) before the actual finale with that, then the main ship; essentially mimicking the final clip in Super Melee.). I also managed to end it in a way, that it made sense; cavalry attacking from all angles, races that would normally disappear by then still being able to attend the final hour, and so on. I made one hell of a happy ending feel like one. The expanded epilogue in my head based on how I finished felt satisfying. Fwiffo makes it home, remainder forces are wiped clean, and some races are given a second chance (where otherwise, they'd be extinct by now, or even before then). Though not canon with the actual ending, I like my ending better, based on my final map and completion methods and stats.
EDIT EDIT:
Funny enough, my Thraddash Torches I used in the final hour played out like, since they were the Heavy of the team and whatnot, they lost miserably to my forces all the time, so they decided to humble themselves this time, and do what they most hated. Fly like a Spathi (Run away like crazy and crap munitions in the process). The Spathi's methods of combat was what made them kick more ass than usual (utterly making the Ur-Quan eat their words about how they felt about them; vindicating their nature, so to speak (more appropriate, given
the flagship's default name.); making their final moments on my team just kickass. The final battle felt like the last episodes of Gurren Lagaan.
EDIT EDIT EDIT:
Next major undertaking I want to do now is play Chrono Trigger again. I already know the story and everything. I just want to play it again. It's an awesome game.
